Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy) is a philanthropic funder and advisor. Since 2014, we’ve directed over $5 billion in grants as part of our mission to help others as much as we can with the resources available to us. We work with a range of donors who share our commitment to cost-effective, high-impact giving. Our current funds include Science and Global Health R&D, Navigating Transformative AI, Abundance & Growth, Farm Animal Welfare, Biosecurity & Pandemic Preparedness, and more. In 2025, we recommended more than $1 billion to high-impact causes.

We’re proud of our track record:

  • We jump-started the field of AI safety and security and have played a vital role in addressing other existential threats, such as mirror bacteria.

  • Our grants to evidence-backed global health programs have saved over 100,000 lives, and our farm animal welfare grants have improved the lives of over 3 billion animals.

  • We supported late-stage clinical trials for the R21 malaria vaccine, now being scaled to protect millions of kids globally.

  • We were the earliest major funder of the YIMBY movement to build more housing. Our grantees have led the charge on major wins like City of Yes in New York, and SB 79 in California, which will enable hundreds of thousands of new housing units

About the Role

~1 min read

We are hiring multiple new team members to help us scale Coefficient Giving’s finance operations as the organization continues to grow. We’re aiming to hire 3-5 people at the Finance Operations Associate level and one person at the Finance Operations Lead level. Candidates for either level are encouraged to apply; prior experience, as well as performance in our evaluation process, will inform which level is the best fit. Both the finance operations associate and the finance operations lead will own a combination of core finance operations work and special projects, spending roughly half their time in each area. The finance operations lead will assume ownership of more complex finance workstreams and may eventually be a people manager.

In either role, your portfolio will be shaped by your unique strengths and expertise, though we expect all successful candidates to be comfortable continuously learning new tools, processes, and areas of finance and accounting.

Core finance operations responsibilities include:

5-7 years of experience in finance or accounting, with meaningful ownership of period-end close, audits, or similar core finance workstreams
A strong grounding in a risk-based approach to finance — including the ability to clearly communicate reasoning on decisions that balance risk mitigation with operational efficiency
Experience preparing or reviewing Form 990s and project managing external audits
Comfort with payroll and benefits administration
Experience coaching and developing team members who work with a high level of independence
A CPA (or equivalent credential)
Multi-entity accounting or consolidation, including international entities
Implementation or migration of finance and accounting systems (e.g. ERP, payroll, expense management, AP)
Experience working for or with a complex philanthropic organization (e.g. another large grantmaker)
Familiarity with the IRS accountable plan rules and U.S. nonprofit tax compliance more broadly
Familiarity with the U.S. banking system and/or experience working in treasury operations, including maintenance of the accompanying internal control framework
For the Finance Operations Associate level, total compensation would be $130,525, distributed as a base salary of $113,500 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $17,025 for U.S. hires.
For the finance operations lead level, total compensation would be $155,825, comprising a base salary of $135,500 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $20,325 for U.S. hires.
These compensation figures assume a remote location; there would be geographic adjustments upwards for candidates who are based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Washington, D.C., and are willing to work from our local office approximately two days per week or more.
