Since 2014, we’ve directed over $7 billion in grants as part of our mission to help others as much as we can with the resources available to us. It's also a pivotal moment for Coefficient Giving: we gave around $1 billion last year, and are on track to more than double our giving this year.

We're significantly scaling our grantmaking and rapidly growing our team to support it, in part because we expect to see large increases in philanthropic funding flowing into the fields where we work in the coming years. Accelerating now lets us fill cost-effective gaps today, and helps lay the groundwork for new donors to step in as well.

Growth at this pace means the work is fast, ambiguous, and often messy: we need to make big decisions, pivot quickly, and make trade-offs. We think this is a uniquely high-leverage moment, and we're looking for people who find that energizing.

Our Salesforce team builds and maintains the systems that power CG's grantmaking and partnerships operations. Salesforce is our system of record, but it sits within a broader ecosystem of tools — such as Airtable, data pipelines, form tools like FormAssembly and Fillout, and integrations like Ironclad — that together support how grants move from decision through payment. Our org supports over 230 active users, including CG staff and external users. While our record volume is relatively low, our work tends to be high-touch and high-complexity, with heavy customization and a deliberately code-first build. The Salesforce team acts as internal consultants to many teams at CG. We care about understanding the problem as much as we do building the solution, and we're always looking for ways to remove friction, improve data quality, and make our systems more useful to the people who rely on them.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Architect or Architect who can hold design authority over a heavily customized Salesforce org and the integrations around it. This is a hands-on, builder role that requires experience in Apex and Lightning Web Components and familiarity with the DevOps practices that get changes safely to production.

You would join a growing Salesforce team — spanning Eastern, Central, and Brasília time — that meets daily and works closely together. You would partner closely with our existing senior technical lead on the technical direction of the system. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, though you would be expected to provide technical oversight and mentorship across the team. There's room in this role to specialize — we’re actively re-architecting how money moves through the system end-to-end, and ensuring our Partnerships work is reflected in Salesforce would be a natural focus for this role.

• Design and build complex Salesforce solutions using Apex and Lightning Web Components with expert understanding of platform capabilities and limitations, and produce durable technical deliverables such as architecture documentation the team can work from.

• Write SOQL against a custom object model representing the full path money takes through the system, from donor contributions through budgets and allocations to outgoing grants.

• Make informed decisions on solution trade-offs, considering factors such as scalability, maintainability, user experience — and increasingly, where a process lives across our ecosystem of systems and integrations.

• Translate business needs into technical specifications and solution design, often for work touching multiple systems and teams.

• Predict what could go wrong as we scale and adopt new technology — problems like platform and API limits, integration failure modes, data integrity — and work to prevent it rather than react to it.

• Take a lead role in system security and data compliance, including our sharing and permissions model and field history tracking.

• Evaluate, recommend, implement, and manage Salesforce features and third-party tools.

• Partner with our existing senior technical lead on the technical direction of the system, contributing your own architectural perspective while building a shared view of how the system should evolve.

• Mentor team members on technical skills, review technical work, and contribute to team enablement, raising the technical bar across the team.

• Help oversee the team's user support function and resolve escalated cases, staying close enough to user friction that it informs your design decisions.

• Evaluate and assess Salesforce platform changes — new features, deprecations, and security requirements like enhanced MFA — and assess what each one means for our org, our integrations, and our users.

• Implement and advocate for DevOps best practices, including sandbox-to-production deployment pipelines (we use Gearset) and IDE-based workflows (IntelliJ + Illuminated Cloud).

• Serve as the team’s release manager, or mentor members of the admin team to serve in this capacity.

• Contribute to and help shape the team's approach to AI-enabled development workflows — we've built an in-house Salesforce MCP and are iterating on how AI tools integrate into our development and stakeholder-facing processes.

• Designing architecture for custom budget allocations that allow our grantmaking to be analyzed across multiple dimensions.

• Creating a flexible and easy-to-update tagging engine for our grants that allows for robust reporting, which may vary from program to program.

• Improving our existing code base and refactoring existing code.

• Maintaining and improving Lightning Web Components that are being implemented with our Data Model Redesign project, which will help users move and track funds through donor contributions, budgets, and outgoing grants.

• Designing integration patterns for our expanding partnerships work: deciding where new funding-partner data enters the system, how it connects to existing grant records, and how external-user access is governed.

• Exploring a potential build of a grantee portal on Experience Cloud.

We are looking for someone with extensive experience in Salesforce administration and development, with a strong background in solution architecture, implementations, and data migrations.
