The City of Georgetown is accepting applications for the Municipal Court Assistant position.
Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of routine-to-moderately complex clerical work in support of effective and efficient Municipal Court operations and provides professional and courteous customer service at all times. Works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor. Reports to the Clerk of Court.
Prepares for bond hearings; schedules cases for court trials and bond hearings; enters tickets and types warrants; schedules and processes paper work for jail and bond hearings; prints/mails Notice of Suspension to defendants/DMV; and verifies that all court dispositions are correct after Traffic/Criminal Court.
Receives and responds to inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints pertaining to department policies, procedures and personnel; answers the telephone and provides information to callers, visitors, front desk personnel and police officers; and processes/distributes incoming mail.
Examines and corrects all felony warrants, tickets and documents before transmitting to the General Session Court; maintains defendant's time payment accounts and forwards unpaid fine letters or issues bench warrants; collects and records fees, payments, and fines; and balances daily receipts.
Coordinates with Victim's Advocate in accordance with the Victim's Bill of Rights Law; assists in courtroom proceedings and provides clerical assistance to Clerks, judge, law enforcement and defendants; prepares and maintains Setoff Debt Collection list to forward to the Finance Department; prepares and/or generates a variety of documents including bond hearing documents and Notice of Suspensions; and refers to booking reports/detention center, warrants and tickets.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including booking/incident reports, tickets, warrants, warrant/courtesy summons prep, tickets, remand/transfer cases from General Sessions and payments for fines.
Operates a variety of computer software programs to include the CMS (Case Management System), Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook; and uses a variety computer and clerical supplies.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as victims, judge, law enforcement, other personnel, detention center, defendants and walk-ins.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a High School Diploma supplemented by a minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess current National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification.
