~1 min readThe Human Resource Generalist assists the Director of Human Resources with all human resource related tasks, including but not limited to: hiring and recruiting procedures, executing human resource programs, and attending to inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Talent acquisition for qualified applicants; collaborates with department managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. Maintain our applicant tracking system, conducts initial interviews and sources positions for exempt and non-exempt positions.
- Coordinates and conducts onboarding for new employees including background checks and respirator fit testing.
- Performs routine tasks required to assist in the administration of human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, wellness, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Coordinates the Colonial Institute Apprenticeship Program. Attends local high schools to recruit participants for each cycle of program. Attends informational sessions and presents program to each high school multiple times per year.
- Coordinates and attends all Colonial volunteer programs to include Adopt a Highway weekend events, Community Service Days, and other company sponsored events.
- Assists with company events and programs to include company events, quarterly meetings, and vendors on site.
- Researches, analyzes, prepares, and presents HR Data and statistics.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Maintains the employee message boards and ensures that the content is current.
- Administers the company culture program.
- Prepares monthly newsletters.

This is a full-time position; days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
- Preferred: Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in Human Resources field can be accepted in lieu of a college degree.
- Preferred: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential.
- Required: At least two years of related experience.
