About the Role

~1 min read

Color is hiring a Controller to lead and scale the company’s accounting function. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a builder who can own the close, improve process quality and timeliness, strengthen controls, and modernize how accounting operates in a lean environment.

The Controller will oversee all core accounting processes across expense, revenue, cash, payroll, audit support, and compliance. This person will be expected to operate with strong day-to-day ownership, roll up their sleeves where needed, and build a more automated, technology-enabled accounting function that keeps back-office overhead efficient as the business evolves.

This role reports to the VP of Finance and will serve as a critical leadership role within the team and business.

  • Own day-to-day accounting operations across the general ledger, monthly close, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash, and financial reporting

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process with a focus on timeliness, quality, and repeatability

  • Oversee accounting for expense, revenue, bank activity, and payroll, ensuring complete and accurate financial records

  • Serve as the primary accounting leader managing the accounting team in a lean, execution-oriented environment

  • Strengthen close controls, review procedures, balance sheet support, and accounting documentation

  • Partner with external advisors on technical accounting matters, while retaining ownership of execution, judgment, and operational outcomes internally

  • Identify and implement improvements in systems, workflows, and integrations to reduce manual effort and improve reliability

  • Explore and engage with practical uses of automation and AI to improve close efficiency, review quality, reconciliations, flux analysis, and reporting support

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Legal, People, and operational leaders to ensure accounting processes are aligned with business activity

  • Support audit, tax, and compliance workstreams with accurate schedules, clear ownership, and disciplined execution
