A Senior Engineer is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope and accountability at this level is responsible for the quality of a team's work, ensuring that all designs are clear and complete for successful execution. This level can undertake complex design and problem solving without supervision. We are a fast-growing team with the vision to optimize Nordstrom digital experiences.

A day in the life…

 

Design and collaborate with local and partner teams.

Participate and contribute to the agile development and planning process.

Write highly maintainable, easy-to-understand code for RESTful Services, event-driven systems, databases, and cloud infrastructure following secure coding practices.

Demonstrate a foundational understanding of standards, concepts, and principles of engineering to solve the practical needs of the business.

Design complex systems at the organization level with up/downstream dependencies and understand business metrics for the organization.

Mentor other engineers and help them split larger designs into individual work units.

Design and validate all scenarios conform to code quality through complete and automated unit, functional, integration, and end-end testing.

Identify and prevent performance issues, optimize solutions and infrastructure, and lead cross-functional troubleshooting.

Instrument code appropriately, creating custom metrics, alerts, and dashboards.

Ensure adherence to Engineering best practices across the entire solution.

Collaborate with other software engineers on design and best practices and conduct code reviews.

Understand tradeoffs in types of engineering processes and adjust a team process to meet the project's needs.

Test all scenarios and conform to quality and security standards Participate in design and code review to ensure quality and testability of feature.

 

Your responsibilities...

• 3+ years of professional experience in practice area

• Proficiency with containerization technologies such as Docker

• Familiarity with Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with relational databases.

• Experience with RESTful architecture and micro-services.

• Experience with cloud-based services such as AWS.

• Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery methodologies and tooling.

• A deep proficiency of Java, additional languages such as Python is a plus.

• Experience in developing near real-time data processing solutions utilizing Kafka is a plus.

• Experience with integrations in/out of Financial planning systems (Anaplan, Oracle) a plus.

• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
