Duties: This position is responsible for maintaining an assigned caseload including all files relating to family placement and continued participation on the Housing Assistance Program. This is a federally funded program through the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). All administrative and program related expenses are paid through funds received from HUD. The duties of this position are specialized as required for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. Perform all required and necessary actions to maintain assigned caseload which includes: initial placement of families on housing program; conducting annual and interim reexaminations of tenant files which includes verifying reported income, calculating annual income, computing family's share of rent, entering data into computer, and printing appropriate file, family and owner documents. This process may also include contacting families, employers, and landlords. Interview housing applicants from an established waiting list; issue vouchers for use in locating appropriate unit for family and subsequent completion of applicant file upon lease-up to full participant requirements. This activity may include completion of rent reasonableness, review of the Request for Tenancy Approval (RFTA), requesting the inspection and HAP Contract, and communicating with the family and landlord. Prepare and review monthly housing payroll to process required rent payments to landlords and utility allowance payments to tenants. This action requires attention to detail in entering computer data and ensuring correct preparation of the Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) contract. Must have the ability to handle daily contacts with participants and owners/landlords/managers who call for assistance with various problems relating to their units, including inspections, complaints, repairs, damages, over/underpayments of rent, questions regarding rent amounts, etc. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy. Performs other duties as assigned by Housing Management.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Obtain or provide documentation of HUD certifications in eligibility, occupancy, rent calculation, and HQS inspection within one year of employment or when training is available. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word. Valid Texas Driver's License. PREFERRED: Knowledge of the HUD rules and regulations relating to the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

    • From 21 to less than 26 years of service - five weeks of vacation per year.
    • From 26 years of service and up - six weeks of vacation per year.
