The Job  

The Critical Facilities Manager (CFM) is responsible for all aspects of data center management and operations throughout the year. They will foster an unwavering attitude and commitment to safety and reliability within the Data Center as they build a team of Engineers, Technicians, and Assistant Managers, along with outside contractors, capable of achieving 100% availability.  
 

Responsibilities 

  • Manage the complete physical asset of the operation and maintenance of the critical and noncritical data center infrastructure equipment and systems. 
  • Build a staff of qualified technicians and assistant managers with the necessary skill sets to deliver total availability (100% uptime) to customers. 
  • Manage power and cooling capacity and monitor environmental conditions within the data halls. 
  • Resolve all electrical, mechanical, and fire protection system issues in the data center while minimizing risks and business impacts; communicate problems to management and customers promptly. 
  • Manage the customer relationship and act as the single point-of-contact for all facility-related issues, including, but not limited to, schedules, new business, projects, budgets, expansion, and staffing. 
  • Manage the onboarding of the new site by working closely with the construction and operations teams to ensure a seamless transition from construction to operations, with a goal of 100% compliance with all standards, policies, and lease expectations. 
  • Manage day-to-day facilities support staff, including coaching and development programs. 
  • Oversee the development and accuracy of site-level operating procedures and other documentation. 
  • Manage oversight from preventive maintenance inspections and guide how to address issues. 
  • Determine actionable items to address quality control review results. 
  • Implement and develop standards for using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage all planned and unplanned data center work. 
  • Audit all CMMS databases for accuracy and completeness, produce reports as required at customer request, control system access, and user credentials. 
  • Customize planned maintenance procedures and schedules to follow best practices and OEM recommendations. 
  • Make space and power recommendations to the customer and manage power and cooling capacity and environmental conditions within the data halls. 
  • Responsible for working with the director to identify, document, and implement new policies and procedures as needed. 
  • Enforce strict adherence to Customer SLA parameters and Change Control activitiesreview and approve all system changes (set-points, thresholds, alarm-points, etc.) which could impact customer operations. 
  • Work closely with HR to identify, evaluate, and hire new employees; ensure new employees are onboarded promptly. Identify, vet, and approve all subcontractors who will perform work on-site. 
  • Develop PM contract scopes of work, negotiate contract terms and conditions, and ensure contract terms are fulfilled. 
  • Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team as well as with co-workers/ teammates and leaders across the organization. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study, technical school with an emphasis on mission-critical operations or high-performance manufacturing, related military operations, or equivalent experience is required. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in mission-critical environments is required. 
  • 3+ years’ direct management of non-exempt shift-based employees, required. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required for interacting with internal employees and leaders, and external contractors and customers 
  • Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills are required for understanding and evaluating complex problems, including analyzing a situationidentifying solutions, and selecting the best solution 
  • Financial acumen, including the ability to create and understand budgets, financial analysis, and invoicing 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills 
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, mission-critical environments 
  • Ability to read and understand complex drawings, systems, and other documentation

Occasional travel between data centers may be required.   

Work Environment 

This job operates in a data center, office, and shop environment. This role routinely uses standard maintenance equipment, including ladders, scissor lifts, forklifts, power tools, and voltmeters. While performing these duties, the employee will be exposed to hot and cold environments.  

Physical Demands  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 50 pounds.   

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work  

This is a full-time, onsite position. General hours and days of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On-call 24x7 to respond to all data center emergencies and events.
