Test Team Lead

The Test Team Lead is responsible for end‑to‑end quality assurance and test leadership across the WMS and eCommerce portfolios, with a strong focus on release confidence, automation maturity, and peak‑event readiness (e.g. Black Friday). This role leads test delivery using Azure DevOps (ADO) and Playwright, ensuring high‑risk customer and operational journeys are thoroughly validated, automated where possible, and production‑ready under peak load conditions. 3. Reporting Line Reports to: Testing Manager Manages: Test Analysts / Test Automation Engineers Key Interfaces: Product Owners & Portfolio Managers Engineering Leads & Developers DevOps & Platform teams Warehouse Operations & Supply Chain Business & UAT stakeholders Third‑party vendors and integration partners 4. Key Responsibilities A. Test Strategy & Governance (Portfolio Ownership) Define and own the test strategy for WMS and eCommerce, aligned to Agile delivery. Establish risk‑based testing aligned to business impact and peak‑event priorities. Own test governance including: Test plans and estimates Entry/exit criteria Defect severity models Release readiness and go/no‑go recommendations Provide clear quality reporting using ADO dashboards and metrics. B. Test Delivery & Execution Leadership Lead test planning and execution across multiple squads and releases. Ensure coverage for: Functional and exploratory testing End‑to‑end (E2E) journeys across eCommerce → OMS → WMS System Integration Testing (SIT) Regression testing (manual + automated) Coordinate test environments, data, and dependencies. Own the defect lifecycle in ADO: Triage, prioritisation, RCA coordination Verification and closure Production defect analysis and prevention C. Test Automation Leadership (Playwright) Own and evolve the Playwright automation strategy. Ensure: Critical customer and operational journeys are automated Automation is stable, maintainable, and trusted Automated tests are integrated into ADO CI/CD pipelines Drive: Shift‑left automation at story level Regression suite optimisation (fast, reliable, high‑value tests) Review automation coverage and execution results as part of release readiness. D. Peak Event & Black Friday Readiness Lead test planning and execution for peak events, including Black Friday. Ensure readiness for: High‑volume traffic and order throughput Promotion and pricing accuracy Payment, fraud, and checkout stability Fulfilment capacity and WMS throughput Coordinate: Performance and load testing (with engineering/DevOps) Dress rehearsals and pre‑peak regression runs Defect war rooms and rapid triage during peak periods Support hypercare and post‑event quality reviews. E. Non‑Functional & Operational Quality Coordinate and assure coverage for: Performance, scalability, and resilience Integration reliability and error handling Monitoring, logging, and alert validation Ensure test scenarios reflect real warehouse and customer behaviour. Support cutovers, releases, and rollback readiness. F. Stakeholder & UAT Enablement Partner with business stakeholders to: Define UAT scope and success criteria Support UAT execution and defect triage Drive timely UAT sign‑off Communicate quality status clearly, including: Risks and mitigation Trade‑offs and recommendations Release confidence levels G. People Leadership & Capability Development Lead, coach, and mentor the test team. Build capability across: ADO test management Playwright automation WMS and eCommerce domain knowledge Promote a quality‑first culture across delivery teams. 5. Tools & Technology (Required) Azure DevOps (ADO) Test Plans, Boards, Pipelines, Dashboards, Defect Management Playwright UI automation for eCommerce and operational portals CI/CD integration (ADO Pipelines) API testing tools (Postman/REST clients) SQL/log analysis (basic level) 6. Skills & Experience Essential 5+ years in testing / quality engineering 2+ years in a test lead or test management role Strong experience with ADO and Playwright Proven experience testing complex integrations Experience supporting high‑traffic or peak events Domain (Strongly Preferred) Retail, eCommerce, supply chain, or warehouse systems OMS/WMS integration testing Leadership & Soft Skills Strong planning and prioritisation skills Clear, confident stakeholder communication Data‑driven decision making Calm and decisive under pressure (peak events) 7.
