Job Description
CrossBoundary is recruiting a full-time Senior Associate or Associate Principal to join our Power & Infrastructure Advisory Team in London with primary responsibility for transaction advisory. Additionally, the Senior Associate or Associate Principal will support company strategic initiatives, sector analysis, and advisory work for other industries or regions, as needed. As a member of the team, you will actively contribute to a powerful intervention that has the potential for significant positive impact on investment into developing markets.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage team of project and infrastructure finance professionals on the execution of strategic and transaction advisory engagements
  • Coordinate the implementation of different power and infrastructure-focused mandates and business development efforts executed by different teams worldwide
  • Responsible for developing new revenue lines and framing new business pursuits, hiring, capacity building, performance management, and general team leadership activities
  • Representing CrossBoundary’s power and infrastructure team in seminars and conferences with the overall objective of relationship-building and business development
  • Leading business development through proactive opportunity sourcing and relationship building, as well as responding to donor-funded procurements (EOIs and RFPs), including executing technical and financial proposals
  • Provide client coverage of investors such as private equity firms and DFIs and proactively identify advisory opportunities
  • Provide project leadership and execution oversight to a wide range of advisory assignments:
    • Transaction advisory: Support early and late-stage (solar, hydro, wind, biomass, and gas) projects to reach financial close, including identifying and mitigating financing barriers, optimizing project financing structures, advising on project risk allocation and legal agreements, and reviewing and build financial models
    • Strategic advisory: Lead clean power strategic advisory engagements for public and private sector stakeholders (e.g. roadmaps, stakeholder engagements, and capital maps)
  • Coordinate activities with implementation partners on strategic and transaction advisory mandates
  • Reporting on the progress of all projects on a bi-weekly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc basis and preparing status updates to counterparties as needed
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
Power and Infrastructure Specific:
  • 10+ years of experience at one of the following:
    • the project finance team of top-tier investment or commercial bank or DFI or specialist advisor with proven success; or
    • an asset manager investing in energy or infrastructure; or
    • a clean energy project developer with a sizable project portfolio
  • Experience in fundraising (equity or debt), with a leadership role, for infrastructure projects
  • Experience in, understanding of, and interest in working in Underserved markets, including knowledge of power procurement and power auction processes
  • A critical thinker, current on global events, who is intellectually stimulated to work at the confluence of energy and power, geopolitics, economics, and the environment 
  • Experience working with development finance institutions, e.g., IFC, AfDB, DFC, FMO, AFD; development agencies, e.g., USAID, UKAID, JICA; to support investments in high-impact sectors, is imperative  
  • Demonstrated ability to project manage complex transactions, strategic advisory engagements, and team members
  • Demonstrated attention to detail while maintaining a holistic picture of overall goals
  • Experience with transmission or distribution projects or intermittent-generation projects with storage capacity is regarded particularly favorably
  • At least one renewable (solar, wind, hydro, and biomass) project developed from origination to financial close in Africa, is also regarded favorably
  • Experience in clean power strategic advisory engagements for public and private sector stakeholders (e.g. roadmaps, stakeholder engagements, and capital maps)
General:
  • Excellent analytical ability and discipline, ability to think clearly and communicate effectively, solve problems, and a voracious hunger to learn in complex situations
  • English (working proficiency), Spanish, or French are a preference but not required
  • Experience working with governmental clients and stakeholders
  • Extensive travel will be required
