The Associate Athletics Director, Development will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospect, with a focus on securing major gifts of $25,000+ and principal gifts of $1 million+. In addition, the incumbent provides strategic oversight of annual giving and planned giving initiatives while fostering meaningful relationships with donors, alumni, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
Working collaboratively with the Executive Director of Athletics, University Relations and Development, campus leadership, coaches, and external constituents, this position advances the department's strategic priorities by leading athletics development operations, supervising development personnel, supporting assigned sport programs, ensuring responsible stewardship of philanthropic resources, and promoting a culture of compliance, service, and excellence in support of Long Beach State Athletics and its student-athletes.
Responsibilities

- →Provide strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the athletics development program, including fundraising strategy, annual and planned giving, campaign initiatives, budgeting, donor engagement, and the supervision and performance management of athletics development staff to achieve departmental fundraising goals.
- →Campus Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison between Long Beach State Athletics and University Relations and Development, collaborating with campus partners to align fundraising strategies, coordinate donor engagement, and advance campus philanthropic priorities.
- →Serve on the Executive Director of Athletics’ Senior Staff to plan, implement, support, manage, and evaluate overall goals and objectives of the Long Beach State Department of Athletics.
- →Serve as Sport Supervisor: Provide oversight and leadership to assigned sports programs, ensuring adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional rules while guiding overall program development and team performance.

This position is a strategic and accomplished fundraising leader with a proven ability to secure major and principal gifts, manage a high-value donor portfolio, and build meaningful relationships that advance the mission of Long Beach State Athletics. They are skilled in developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies that generate support through major gifts, annual giving, endowments, capital projects, and planned giving opportunities, while providing exceptional donor cultivation and stewardship. Experienced in utilizing CRM systems and fundraising analytics, they effectively identify prospects, manage pipelines, track performance, and make data-informed decisions to achieve ambitious revenue goals.
The successful candidate provides visionary leadership for the Athletics Development program by setting fundraising priorities, managing budgets, leading staff, and fostering a high-performing, donor-centered culture. They work collaboratively with Athletics leadership, University Relations and Development, campus partners, and external stakeholders to align fundraising efforts with institutional goals, strengthen donor engagement, and maximize philanthropic support. As a member of the Executive Director of Athletics' senior leadership team, they contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and resource stewardship while representing Athletics across campus and in the community.
In addition, the ideal candidate effectively supervises assigned sports programs, supports coaches and student-athlete success, and ensures compliance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations. They demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, Title IX, Clery Act responsibilities, and ethical leadership while promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence throughout the department.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
- Equivalent to a baccalaureate degree and three years of demonstrated successful fundraising experience required.
- Five years of experience preferred. Capital Campaign experience preferred.
- Valid California driver's license required.
• Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
Long Beach State Athletics is committed to following NCAA, Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rules and regulations. Therefore, the incumbent is required to maintain a working knowledge of these rules and regulations.
Campus Security Authority: This position serves as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and Executive Order 1107. Incumbent is required to promptly report allegations of Clery qualifying crimes that occur within a campus’ Clery geography.
Conflict of Interest: The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
