School counselors work to\r\n maximize and support student success, while promoting access and equity to\r\n education for all students. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Facilitate small groups and short-term individual\r\ncounseling using DBT-A and Restorative Practices.\r\n• Teach classroom school counseling lessons as part of the CTECS Comprehensive\r\nSchool Counseling Framework.\r\n• Conduct annual individual planning meetings with students and families in\r\ngrades 9-12.\r\n• Assist students with postsecondary planning.\r\n• Collect and analyze data to document the results of strategies and\r\ninterventions that are used. to improve student outcomes and to make\r\nprogrammatic decisions.\r\n• Collaborate with central office, administration, teachers, families, and\r\nother staff to support school and district improvement goals.\r\n• Participate in meetings to review and provide multi-tiered systems of support\r\nto students.\r\n• Serve as a lead in 504 meetings and 504 plan management for students.\r\n• Advocate for equitable access to programs and services, and compassionate and\r\njust treatment of all students.\r\n• Participate in professional development activities.\r\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n Demonstrate knowledge and expertise with the CT\r\n Comprehensive School Counseling Framework (CCSCF) and the American School\r\n Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.\r\n \r\n Experience utilizing best practices and methodologies in school counseling,\r\n aligned with current state and national standards\r\n \r\n Experience with career & college counseling\r\n \r\n Experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both\r\n orally and in writing.\r\n \r\n Experience working effectively and collaboratively with school leadership, staff,\r\n families and the community\r\n \r\n Experience utilizing technology and data to address student and departmental\r\n needs\r\n \r\n Experience utilizing strong public relations, organizational and problem\r\n solving skills.\r\n \r\n Experience showing high standards of ethics, honesty and integrity.\r\n Experience working with 504 plans and student populations. \r\n Experience with school based DBT-A (dialectical behavioral\r\n therapy).\r\n \r\n Experience with restorative practices.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.\r\n
