The Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF) is an anchor institution within the broader Bradfield City precinct in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bradfield Development Authority (BDA), a NSW Government agency. Modelled on international best practice, the AMRF operates a shared-services technical facility staffed by industry experts that works with manufacturing businesses to innovate, prototype and adopt new technologies. It holds the largest commercially available suite of advanced manufacturing equipment in Australia. A second building is under construction and will house Australia’s first advanced semiconductor packaging facility alongside a further manufacturing hall, positioning the AMRF at the frontier of critical technology development.
The AMRF has completed a successful establishment phase and is now entering a period of commercial growth and critical technology scale-up. With strong technical capability in place and an incoming board of distinction, the AMRF is seeking an Executive General Manager who can build a focused business strategy, deepen the customer pipeline, and articulate a compelling vision for the facility’s role in Australia’s advanced manufacturing and critical technology future.
The Executive General Manager reports to the BDA Chief Executive Officer with key accountabilities to the AMRF Board, leads a team of approximately 40 people, and carries responsibility for an operating budget of approximately $12.5 million and capital equipment across three facilities valued at $70 million.
The role is accountable for developing and executing a long-term commercial strategy; driving growth in revenue, customers, and market presence; and building the ecosystem of industry, research, and government relationships that underpin the AMRF’s mission. A distinct and significant leadership responsibility is the critical technology programme – overseeing the second building as a whole, providing strategic direction to the international operator of the semiconductor packaging facility, and shaping the AMRF’s role within the broader national critical technology agenda.
You will build on the AMRF’s technical capability, bringing demonstrated experience leading commercially oriented organisations in advanced manufacturing, industrial innovation, critical technology, deep-tech commercialisation, or a closely related sector. A track record of building revenue, developing new markets, and driving organisational growth is essential – as is the capacity to articulate and pursue a longer-range technology vision. You will be a boundary-spanner and advocate: someone who builds conviction in the AMRF’s mission across government, industry, research institutions, and international partners, and who has the temperament to navigate complexity, push for outcomes, and bring others with them.
This is a rare opportunity to lead an institution with both commercial ambition and genuine national purpose – at a moment when Australia’s position in the global critical technology supply chain is being actively shaped.
