• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $112,375 to $124,158 + super

Our Science and Insights team is currently seeking to appoint a Scientist to support the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of wetland fauna, with a particular focus on flow-dependent frog species across the Murray-Darling Basin.

In this role, you will undertake field-based monitoring, ecological investigations and data analysis to support the conservation of wetland-dependent fauna in the Murray-Darling Basin. You will contribute to scientific research, prepare technical reports and help deliver evidence-based outcomes for freshwater ecosystem conservation and environmental water management across NSW.

You are an environmental scientist or ecologist with a passion for wetland ecosystems and fauna conservation. You bring strong analytical and research skills, sound scientific judgement and the ability to collect, manage and interpret complex ecological data to support evidence-based decision-making.

You are equally comfortable working in remote field environments and undertaking desktop analysis. A collaborative team member and effective communicator, you can explain scientific findings to a range of audiences, build productive relationships with stakeholders and contribute to high-quality project outcomes in a dynamic and evolving research environment.

• Demonstrated expertise in field monitoring of wetland fauna with a focus on frog species identification.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data management, spatial analysis, and biostatistical software programs.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Murray-Darling Basin floodplain and wetland ecosystems.

• A science degree or postgraduate degree in environmental science, ecology or related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in field monitoring of wetland fauna with a focus on frog species identification
• Willingness to travel regularly (particularly during spring) and undertake monitoring of fauna in remote wetlands of NSW for a week at a time, and up to about eight weeks per year.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data management and analysis, GIS, biostatistical software programs, including processing and computer-based analysis of acoustic data.
• Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
