Under general supervision, the HSSE Administrator works as part of Curtin Maritime’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Department in support of the Company’s maritime and dredging operations. The HSSE Administrator is primarily responsible for the administrative and compliance functions that are overseen by the HSSE Department and will work alongside operations to ensure compliance.  This position will report to the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Manager.
 
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Administrative Support 

  • Maintain and organize health safety records, files, and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements and Company standards for programs such as Confined Space Entry, Respirator, security plans, hazardous waste management, and drug screenings.  
  • Maintain, version control, and distribute HSSE documentation including policies, procedures, and checklists.  
  • Prepare and distribute internal HSSE communications, memos, reports, and meeting minutes.  
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute internal HSSE safety signage design and publication. 
  • Support project planning operations by assisting in the development of Safe Work Plans and/or obtaining project-specific permits, licenses, etc.  
  • Provide general administrative support to the DPA, HSSE Manager, and departmental administrative requests as needed.  

 

Compliance & Reporting 

  • Assist in conducting, documenting, and preparing internal and external audits, surveys, and inspections. 
  • Maintain records of incidents, near misses, audits/inspections, and corrective actions.  
  • Track and maintain regulatory deadlines, certification renewals for the Corporation.  

 

Communication & Liaison 

  • Act as a point of contact for internal health and safety enquiries, and direct queries to appropriate personnel when necessary.  
  • Liaison with third party vendors for the procurement of regulatory required services of both firefighting and lifesaving equipment.  
  • Manage correspondence with Flag State administration and classification societies.  
  • Assist in the cross-departmental coordination of health and safety needs.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with internal and external parties, anticipate the needs of others.  
  • Extremely strong organizational, project, and time-management skills. 
  • Proven problem-solving, able to quickly analyze situations, and solve them.  
  • Strong work ethic 

 

PHYSICAL APTITUDES REQUIRED 

  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English 
  • Practice safe work habits and wear protective safety equipment.  
  • Must be physically able to safely transit onboard vessels at the dock and underway  
  • Must be comfortable working on the water and in changing climates  
  • Regular attendance at the main office in Long Beach, CA is essential.  
  • Must be able to travel on short notice  

 
CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred  
  • Proficiently skilled in Windows & Microsoft 365 
  • Must have a clean driving record (5+ years) 
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card 
  • OSHA 30 
  • CPFR/First Aid Certified
