Are you a caring, compassionate person who wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of youth? Do you have education or life experiences that can help a young family to realize their capacity and live their best lives?


If yes, Chimo is looking to fill two full-time Care Counsellor positions in our Group Care Home designed especially for youth. As a Care Counsellor in our program, you will be part of a close-knit team that provides support, education, and nurturing in a 24/7 caring, safe, home environment. Your work will help youth develop the skills they need to thrive. 


We are currently looking to fill these roles:


2 Full Time Care Counsellor - Level 1 (Diploma) or Level 2 (Degree).


More details about what we are looking for:


  • Warm and caring individuals who can form strong, supportive relationships with youth from diverse and often disadvantaged backgrounds and histories. We are looking for mentors to guide youth through challenges and help them feel safe and valued.
  • Individuals with post-secondary education. We most often hire candidates with diplomas or degrees in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related Human Services fields.
  • Individual who work best in a team environment. We are looking for team members who are excited to make lasting differences in the lives of youth while building a rewarding career in the Child and Youth Care field.
  • Employees with standard employee workplace skills, including good communication, decent writing skills, punctuality in starting shifts on time, able to use technology in the workplace, and a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism.
  • Individuals who are physically able to perform the duties of this role, including working shift work, working indoors and outdoors in all seasons, climbing stairs in the group home, completing household management tasks (e.g., cleaning, meal preparation, cooking, and grocery shopping), and performing yard work (e.g., mowing lawns, planting gardens, raking leaves, and shovelling snow). This is not a desk job.
  • Individuals who understand the concepts that are important to us, including trauma-informed care, strength-based approaches, Indigenous worldviews, child and youth development, child-parent attachment, and the therapeutic milieu of group care.

What paperwork do we need from you before you start?


  • Level 2 staff will have a degree in Human Services.
  • Level 1 staff will have a diploma, actively working on their post-secondary degree, and/or have life experiences/job experiences that will provide value to the role. 
  • A clear and current, within 6 months, Criminal Records Check
  • A clear and current Children Services Intervention Record Check
  • If your degree came from an international institute you will be asked for an ISQA Assessment (International Qualifications Assessment Service - International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca)
