Responsibilities
This is skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of communication lines, electrical lines and related equipment. Incumbent installs, maintains and repairs traffic and pedestrian fixtures, push buttons, park lamps, island lights, illuminating signs, loop detectors, communication and video cable networks. Some work is performed in the immediate area of primary circuits, trolley feeders, and other high voltage wiring.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
Education\r\nGraduation from high school (or G.E.D.).�\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience�\r\nMust have one year of experience in the repair or maintenance of electrical or communications systems.\r\n\r\n
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.\r\n\r\n\r\nMust within 90 days of appointment obtain an Ohio Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), as a condition of employment.\r\n\r\n\r\nWithin 150 days of appointment, must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.), including the qualification to operate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio. Out of state residents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence within the prescribed 150 days of appointment.\r\n\r\n
Promotional Qualifications
Must be a full-time permanent or part-time permanent employee in pay grade 123 (Wage) or below, pay grade 29 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.\r\n
Open Competitive Applicants
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Identical scores will be broken by a random selection method.\r\n
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Incumbent is expected to have knowledge, skills & abilities including, but not limited to the following areas:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Considerable knowledge of methods, materials and tools used on communication and power line�construction and maintenance work.\r\n Considerable knowledge of the elementary principles of electric theory as applied to communication and electric transmission lines.\r\n Working knowledge of the safety precautions practiced in electric and communication line construction and maintenance work.\r\n Ability to learn and observe proper safety precautions.\r\n Good physical condition and health sufficient to perform tasks requiring strength and agility at heights and under varying weather conditions.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment.
