Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.\r\nDeputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.\r\n
Summary Statement
The Delaware Department of Justice, Family Division, seeks a Deputy Attorney General to join our phenomenal team in the Criminal & Delinquency Unit and serve as Assistant Unit Head with a focus on juvenile delinquency.\r\nThe Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit are responsible for drafting motions and briefs, performing research, extending and negotiating plea agreements, and taking matters to trial.� This is a Unit with a high volume of cases and several court calendars scheduled per week.� Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit are responsible for prosecuting both juvenile delinquency and truancy cases.��\r\n**This position is Internal/In-House only.� Applicants may only apply if they are current employees of the Department of Justice**\r\n
Essential Functions
The primary focus of this Assistant Unit Head position will be to supervise Deputy Attorneys General and support staff working on juvenile criminal cases within Family Court’s jurisdiction.� The Assistant Unit Head will also be responsible for carrying a caseload and attending court.� This unique position will also offer the opportunity to cross-train with domestic violence misdemeanor cases.\r\n\r\n\r\nAs an Assistant Unit Head, this individual will carry their own caseload and also assist the Unit Head in the directing and managing of other Deputy Attorneys General, administrative and support operations within the Unit; coordination of assignments and training for all unit members, and other managerial tasks as needed.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Job Requirements
A qualified candidate’s strengths\r\nwill include experience prosecuting criminal cases and experience with juvenile\r\ncriminal cases is strongly preferred.\r\nAdditional strengths will include a strong knowledge of criminal law and\r\nprocedure, the ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine resolutions, and\r\nanticipate legal issues with the ability to research accurately and\r\neffectively.� Candidates must have the ability to learn and apply the\r\nrelevant laws and court rules.�� Candidates must also have or be able\r\nto develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General,\r\nsupport staff and Court personnel.� Membership in Delaware Bar required. \r\n
