Summary Statement
The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission is currently seeking to hire a Fill-In Commission Veterinarian. This position examines horses in the morning on rounds and on the racetrack during the afternoon. This position also observes horses during training, conducts pre-race examinations on horses scheduled to race and helps maintain commission files documenting examination history of horses running at Delaware Park. The veterinarian will observe horses running on the racetrack during the afternoon and attend to injured horses if necessary. This position is also responsible for completing examinations of each horse scheduled to run in the day’s races and recommend scratching a horse if unsound, injured or ill. Collaborate with Safety Steward and other regulatory boards to ensure the rules and regulations are upheld. Work with the State Department of Agriculture and the private practitioners in the control of communicable equine diseases, insect control, and sanitary conditions in the barn area. \r\n

Help load the horse in ambulance and attend while horse is transported to its barn.�\r\n Complete an examination of each horse scheduled to run in the day’s races and recommend scratching a horse if unsound, injured or ill.�\r\n Collaborate with Safety Steward and other regulatory boards to ensure the rules and regulations are upheld.\r\n Work with the State Department of Agriculture and the private practitioners in the control of communicable equine diseases, insect control, and sanitary conditions in the barn area.�\r\n Work horses off the veterinarian’s list\r\n\r\n\r\n
