C/S Veterinarian Technician

Summary Statement

The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission is accepting applications for a Delaware Licensed Equine Veterinary Technician. This employee would be under the direct supervision of the Commission Veterinarians.\r\n

Essential Functions

The listed essential functions are fundamental duties of the position and are critical to successful performance. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of Commission Veterinarians.�\r\n\r\n Collect blood samples for post-race testing, pre-race blood gas testing, and out-of-competition testing in accordance with established veterinary and regulatory standards.\r\n Package and label biological samples, ensuring compliance with chain-of-custody protocols and proper documentation.\r\n Accurately maintain Commission veterinary files, including medical, testing, and regulatory records.\r\n Perform data entry of horse history, test results, and other relevant information into Commission databases.\r\n Monitor and maintain inventory of veterinary and sampling supplies, ensuring adequate stock for race and event days.\r\n Assist Commission Veterinarians in daily duties as assigned, including preparing equipment and supplies for testing procedures.\r\n Adhere to all Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission rules, veterinary regulations, and applicable federal and state laws.\r\n Provide professional, courteous interaction with horse owners, trainers, racing officials, and other Commission staff.\r\n\r\n

Please attach a resume with your online application or use the resume tab in DEL to provide a detailed description of how your education, training and/or experience meets each job requirement including employer, experience/responsibilities and dates (month/year) of employment/training.\r\nApplicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Possession of a current Delaware Veterinary Technician license issued by the Delaware Veterinary Board.\r\n Ability to obtain and maintain required HISA/HIWU registration.\r\n At least two (2) years of experience working with equines, including handling, restraint, and sample collection.\r\n Knowledge of safe handling procedures for horses and standard veterinary practices for equine care.\r\n Knowledge of handling administrative tasks including recordkeeping, inventory management, and data entry.\r\n Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating professionalism, ethical conduct, and integrity.\r\n\r\n

Additional Posting Information

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.\r\n\r\n\r\nMust have availability to work race days (Wednesday–Saturday) and occasional Sundays for special events during the racing season (May through mid-October).\r\n\r\n\r\nMust have the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to perform duties that may require physical exertion, including lifting and restraining animals.\r\n

Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.\r\n\r\n\r\n
