Summary Statement

This is the advanced level, performing a variety of natural resources conservation and preservation duties related to the protection, preservation, improvement, and maintenance of state owned and/or maintained grounds and facilities used by the public. In addition to work performed at the Conservation Technician II level, employees independently perform complex work, under general supervision. Examples of factors contributing to complexity include operation of vehicles or equipment requiring special certifications, licenses, or registrations, greater diversity of work performed, and greater accountability of work on public safety.\r\n

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, employees can complete job duties of a similar kind not specifically listed.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Performs a variety of natural resources conservation and preservation duties for assigned agency operations such as propagating, seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, and care of trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns, and crops, turf/grounds management, integrated pest management, herbicide/fertilizer application, layout and design, macroalgae harvesting, channel marking, debris management, and assessing soil composition and environmental conditions.\r\n Ensures the safe use of state owned and/or maintained grounds and facilities by the public and resolves safety concerns or other issues.\r\n Applies conservation and preservation principles and practices, as well as related laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.\r\n Completes maintenance and repairs in a variety of labor/trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, construction, and grounds maintenance.\r\n Operates marine, land-based, and construction equipment and vehicles.\r\n Provides information to the public and responds to inquiries regarding conservation and preservation efforts and related activities; assists in responding to storms or other related, agency-specific situations.�\r\n Participates in special projects and initiatives.\r\n Completes standard forms/applications and maintains records, logs, and reports.\r\n Maintains applicable tools, equipment, and supplies.\r\n Performs other related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Conservation Technician III \r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: \r\n\r\n�\r\nOffice of Management and Budget,�Department of Transportation, Department of State: \r\n\r\n \r\n Two years' experience in operating and maintaining motor vehicles, landscaping and groundskeeping equipment and hand tools. \r\n \r\n \r\n One year of experience in plant life, horticulture or arboriculture such as plant growth, pest or disease control, groundskeeping or landscaping.\r\n \r\n \r\n Six months' experience in inventory control which includes ordering, receiving, tracking, storing and handling inventory; disbursing materials, supplies and equipment.\r\n \r\n \r\n Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).\r\n \r\n\r\n

Pre-employment Drug Testing:� Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.\r\n\r\n\r\nFunctional Capability Evaluation:� Upon a conditional offer, you must take a Functional Capability Evaluation to assess your strength and agility to meet the physical requirements of the position.\r\nAll applicants must read the detailed physical requirements for this position which is located at https://statejobs.delaware.gov/explore/fce.shtml and the file is named Conservation Tech I-IV; Conservation Technician Manager; Equipment Mechanic III - OMB - Division of Facilities Management.\r\nCriminal background check:��A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. �The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.\r\n\r\nCDL Class A (1 Year Probation): As a condition of hire you must possess a valid CDL Class A driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) OR obtain one during the initial one year probationary period.\r\n\r\n\r\nAs a condition of hire the applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to possess a Category 3 Pesticide Certification by the end of the probationary period.\r\nAll new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.\r\n\r\nApplicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
