Summary Statement

This is the first level of Paralegal work, with a\r\nfocus on protecting the State's interests in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13\r\nbankruptcy proceedings.� The Paralegal\r\nestablishes and maintains case files, manages correspondence, prepares and\r\nfiles bankruptcy claims, motions and objections, as well as tracks filing\r\ndeadlines and answers taxpayer phone calls.\r\nThe Paralegal should be able to identify issues with case files and\r\ndocumentation and be prepared to reach out to auditors and other Revenue staff\r\nto gather additional information as needed.\r\n

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.� Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.\r\n\r\n Establishes and maintains case files. \r\n\r\n\r\n Reviews legal/court documents for completeness and accuracy. \r\n\r\n\r\n Compiles and evaluates facts to complete program, legal, and/or court documents. \r\n\r\n\r\n Provides administrative reports and recommendations for new/revised operating policies/procedures. \r\n\r\n\r\n Reviews state and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance of legal actions/processes.� \r\n\r\n

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Paralegal I\r\nApplicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n Six months experience in preparing and maintaining legal documents and case files. \r\n Six months experience in data collection which includes collecting, compiling and maintaining data from multiple sources such as files, records, databases, customers, staff�or others. \r\n Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data. \r\n Knowledge of�legal terminology. \r\n\r\n

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable�terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.� This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.\r\n
