Summary Statement
The Fraud and Consumer\r\nProtection Division, Consumer Protection Unit, seeks a Special\r\nInvestigator.� This Special Investigator will\r\nsupport the implementation and enforcement of Senate Bill 40.� Senate Bill 40 expands the scope of the Consumer Fraud Act\r\nby making certain patterns or practices of violations by landlords of\r\nManufactured Home Communities an unlawful consumer fraud practice. The\r\nlegislation further authorizes the Attorney General to initiate legal action,\r\nincluding filing petitions in Justice of the Peace Court to establish\r\nreceiverships of Manufactured Home Communities under specified circumstances.\r\n\r\n�\r\nSpecifically, this\r\nSpecial Investigator will review complaints; conduct interviews; prepare and\r\nsubmit timely written reports; assist with the identification and documentation\r\nof patterns of unlawful conduct; coordinate with regulatory and law enforcement\r\nagencies; use and maintain investigative equipment; use and maintain hardware\r\nand software for data analysis, document review and case preparation; work\r\nclosely and collaborate with other members of the Consumer Protection Unit to\r\nprepare cases for prosecution; and perform other duties as required.\r\n
Preferred Qualification
1.\r\nExperience\r\nwith financial fraud or other business-related investigations. \r\n
Essential Functions

Since class specifications are\r\ndescriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties, of a�similar kind, not listed here.\r\n\r\n\r\n• Conducts investigations, which includes conducting interviews to obtain\r\nconfidential information, gathering evidence and documenting findings.\r\n• Interviews witnesses, obtains evidence, attends court proceedings, and\r\ntestifies when appropriate and provide overall vertical assistance to Deputy\r\nAttorney Generals on specific prosecutions or investigations.\r\n• Verifies claims of alleged or probable violations.\r\n• Examines various records and documents in order to ascertain relevant\r\ninformation.\r\n\r\nIdentifies, gathers, collects, evaluates and preserves evidence.\r\n• Makes judgments after evaluating all available facts and recommends\r\nappropriate action.\r\n• Interprets and applies applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies,\r\nand procedures.\r\n• Prepares comprehensive and timely investigative reports; documenting\r\ninterviews and other investigative efforts.\r\n• Testifies in criminal or civil courts, before a Grand Jury, or during an\r\nadministrative hearing.\r\n• May conduct surveillance and undercover investigations.\r\n• Prepares criminal or civil cases for prosecution.\r\n• Ability to work independently or in a team to investigate and prosecute\r\ncomplex cases.\r\n• Maintains professional liaisons and strong lines of communications with other\r\nlaw enforcement partners.\r\n\r\n
Job Requirements
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Minimum five years law enforcement experience.\r\n Ability to investigate complex and difficult cases both independently and as part of a team.\r\n Ability to prepare comprehensive investigative reports for review by a Deputy Attorney General for civil and criminal complaints.\r\n Strong written and verbal communication skills.\r\n Current or recent Police Officers Standards Training (“POST”) certification.�\r\n Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), DELJIS, NCIC, and LEISS.\r\n Possession of a valid driver’s license.\r\n Ability to qualify to carry a DOJ-issued firearm.\r\n Willingness to travel and attend various training opportunities as needed.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
