As a Technical Officer, you will provide high-quality technical support across the School’s teaching and research programs, with a focus on Exercise and Nutrition disciplines. You will work closely with academic staff and students to ensure practical classes and laboratory activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This role involves coordinating support across teams and locations, liaising with external suppliers, and contributing to community engagement activities. You will also apply strong organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to support the effective delivery of teaching and research outcomes.

  • Provide high-level technical support for teaching laboratories, including the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and pack-down of practical classes, assessments, equipment, and facilities.
  • Coordinate laboratory materials, equipment, chemicals, biologicals, and consumables to ensure the effective delivery of practical teaching activities and a high standard of service to staff and students.
  • Deliver technical guidance, safety advice, and practical demonstrations to students and staff, supporting the safe and effective use of laboratory equipment and resources.
  • Promote and maintain compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), infection control, and laboratory safety standards, including the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships, manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and service outcomes.
  • Degree in Exercise Sciences, Sports Science, Biological Science, Food/Nutrition Science, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
  • Experience providing advice or support services within a professional or technical environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply procedures, coordinate work, and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a commitment to contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting, ideally within a tertiary education environment.
  • Good knowledge of WH&S (Workplace Health and Safety) principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards.

Please submit your updated resume and a short cover letter outlining your skills and experience.
