Join our team in a dynamic hybrid role, offering flexibility to work remotely and from our headquarters in Watertown, MA. 

Disc Medicine is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company committed to discovering, developing, and commercializing novel treatments for patients who suffer from serious hematologic diseases. We are building a portfolio of innovative, first-in-class therapeutic candidates that aim to address a wide spectrum of hematologic diseases by targeting fundamental biological pathways of red blood cell biology, specifically heme biosynthesis and iron homeostasis. We are seeking a highly motivated intern to support the application of data science and AI tools within CMC Drug Substance Technical Operations. The intern will work alongside process development, manufacturing, and quality teams to develop AI‑enabled decision‑support tools that improve knowledge access, trend identification, and scientific insight.

This role is focused on responsible, explainable AI in a regulated biopharmaceutical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze structured and unstructured CMC data (development reports, batch data, stability data)
  • Develop AI‑enabled tools for:
    • Knowledge retrieval and synthesis
    • Process trend and drift detection
    • Pattern recognition in deviations or investigations
  • Translate scientific and process problems into data‑driven approaches
  • Build and document prototypes using Python and standard data science libraries
  • Partner with DS, DP, and Quality SMEs to validate outputs

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in:
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Biochemical Engineering
    • Biotechnology
    • Data Science
    • Applied Statistics or related field
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Python (pandas, numpy, basic visualization)
    • Data analysis concepts
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to understand and work within regulated environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exposure to:
    • Biopharmaceutical manufacturing or development
    • Statistics or machine learning coursework
    • Natural language processing (NLP)
  • Experience with:
    • Jupyter notebooks
    • Data visualization libraries
  • Interest in AI governance, traceability, and explainability
  • Hands‑on experience applying AI in real‑world CMC settings
  • Exposure to Drug Substance and Drug Product development
  • Understanding of Quality and regulatory expectations for AI
  • Opportunity to deliver a visible, high‑impact project

The hourly pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rates are determined by considering multiple factors including qualifications, relevance of experience, education & credentials, subject matter expertise, and internal parity.

$25$30 USD
