Senior Product Designer - India

This Senior Product Designer role at DISCO will serve primarily as the strategic architect and owner of our design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and quality across the product experience. They lead system initiatives, define component strategy, bridge code and design, and leverage AI to accelerate design system development. While design systems is the core focus, this role also contributes to product feature design when team priorities require it, applying systems thinking to complex product challenges.

This role brings clarity to system architecture challenges, creates robust component libraries, and pioneers AI-empowered workflows: component generation, accessibility auditing, and design-code synchronization. Operating at the intersection of design craft, engineering collaboration, and systems thinking, they champion patterns that enable teams to move faster without sacrificing quality.

• →System Architecture & Strategy: Defines and evolves system architecture: component taxonomy, token structure, and governance models. Partners with engineering to align system decisions with technical implementation and long-term scalability. Creates frameworks for when to add, modify, or deprecate patterns.
• →Component Design & Development: Designs production-ready components with comprehensive variant coverage and thoughtful API design. Balances flexibility with consistency, anticipating diverse use cases while ensuring accessibility, performance, and maintainability at scale.
• →Design-Code Bridge: Establishes seamless connections between design and code through Code Connect mappings, design token pipelines, and automated synchronization. Ensures design intent translates accurately to implementation while respecting technical constraints.
• →AI-Augmented Systems: Pioneers AI workflows that accelerate system work: component generation, token organization, accessibility auditing, drift detection, and documentation. Experiments with emerging paradigms including AI-readable design systems (structured metadata, semantic annotations), custom design skills and agents for system-specific tasks, and new interaction models between designers, AI, and code. Develops judgment about when AI amplifies work versus when human oversight is essential.
• →Documentation & Adoption: Creates comprehensive documentation that serves designers, engineers, and AI systems. Develops usage guidelines, component specs, and migration paths. Experiments with machine-readable formats (semantic metadata, structured specs) to enable AI workflows. Drives adoption through education and continuous improvement.
• →Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works with engineering to ensure implementation matches design vision. Collaborates with product designers to capture emerging patterns and balance local needs with global consistency. Partners with accessibility, QA, and platform teams to maintain quality standards.
• →Systems Thinking at Scale: Anticipates how decisions ripple across teams and product areas. Consolidates patterns, reduces duplication, and improves coherence. Thinks in primitives and composition, creating foundational building blocks that enable complexity without bloat.
• →Craft Excellence: Maintains a high bar for visual quality, interaction polish, and technical precision. Stays current with emerging technologies (design tokens, Web Components, Figma Variables) and experiments with bleeding-edge workflows that reshape how systems are built and adopted.
• →Product Design Contribution: When team priorities require it, apply systems thinking and design expertise to feature design challenges. Brings architectural perspective and craft excellence to product initiatives while maintaining primary ownership of design system work.

• 5-7+ years in product design, with 2+ years focused on design systems, component libraries, or platform design.
• Proven track record building or scaling design systems across multiple product teams.
• Deep proficiency in Figma and its systems capabilities.
• Technical fluency: HTML/CSS, design tokens, Git, component-based architecture (React, Web Components). Ability to read code.
• Experience with design system governance: contribution models, breaking changes, versioning, adoption patterns.
• Familiarity with AI in design workflows and comfort exploring emerging paradigms.
• Good judgment about when AI accelerates work versus when human evaluation is needed.

• Experience designing for complex, enterprise-level B2B applications with dense, data-heavy interfaces.
• Experience building design systems from scratch or leading large-scale migrations.
• Experience building custom AI workflows/skills/agents and structuring systems for AI consumption.
• Comfort contributing to product feature work when needed without losing focus on design system priorities.
