POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Referral Response Coordinator I is responsible for providing response to donor referrals, donor evaluation, referral management, and collaborates with hospital staff and physicians in referral management.  Additionally, the Referral Response Coordinator supports donor families, provides family care, and may provide families with the option of organ and/or tissue donation. These entire job function collaborates with other staff in varies departments at DNWest, and within the community of hospitals and coroner/medical examiner offices.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to potential donor referrals to assess suitability and enhance the donation process.
  • Conducts chart reviews and determines medical suitability in conjunction with DNWest clinical staff.  Understands and accurately maintains donor information and charting.
  • Assesses hemodynamic stability and develops strategies in conjunction with DNWest clinical staff to maintain organ function.
  • Collaborates with physician and other hospital personnel to develop plan for referral management from initial referral through declaration of death/donation after cardiac death evaluation.
  • Provides education to hospital staff about the donation process.          
  • Reviews medical-legal documentation pertaining to brain death, ensures declaration is completed according to hospital policy and in accordance with American Association of Neurology Guidelines.
  • Provides emotional support and expertise in donation process for donor families and utilizes DNWest staff or hospital resources, as needed.

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment and adjusts to new priorities as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in allied or health science or equivalent experience.
  • Licensed vocational nurse, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or registered respiratory therapist preferred.
  • Previous organ procurement organization experience preferred.
  • Experience in medical/critical care field preferred.
