Job title: Scientist Cheminformatics & Machine Learning
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
Join dsm-firmenich’s Ingredient Modeling team to help build an AI-driven discovery engine for fragrance, taste, and more. In this role you’ll develop and deploy machine learning models - including LLMs and agents - and create intuitive apps that drive small-molecule design and pipeline prioritization. Collaborate with chemists, biologists, perfumers, and data scientists to blend computational chemistry with advanced data science, turning domain expertise into real impact. We’re looking for a strong cheminformatician fluent in Python, AI/ML, cloud platforms, and modern web/UI, with excellent communication skills to explain models and drive adoption in a fast-growing, collaborative team.
Your key responsibilities
* Design and implement cheminformatics algorithms and models to accelerate new ingredient discovery
* Develop and optimize machine learning solutions using Python and key libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
* Apply advanced neural network architectures to solve complex ingredient modeling challenges
* Deploy, monitor, and maintain scalable machine learning workflows on cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate scientific needs into practical, user-friendly tools
* Leverage modern technologies (e.g., Git, generative AI, graph/relational data models, cloud-native systems, APIs) and stay current with emerging trends to drive innovation
We offer
* Opportunity to join a dynamic and thriving team applying ML and other modeling techniques to biology and chemistry
* Highly motivated, professional and committed multicultural and interdisciplinary team
* Opportunity to put your scientific skills into practice to drive innovation in health, nutrition and beauty
* Grow and develop your skills through our in-house training courses
* Being a part of company shaping a strong legacy heritage through industrial innovations and cutting-edge technology
* A commitment to science-based innovations with 2000 scientists and more than 700 mln annual Science & Research investments
You bring
* Ph.D. in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
* 2–5 years of academic or industry experience in cheminformatics and computational chemistry, ideally within fragrance, taste, pharmaceutical, or agricultural discovery
* Proven track record of achievement, demonstrating strong drive and entrepreneurial innovation
* Advanced proficiency in Python and core data science and machine learning libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
* Strong expertise in cheminformatics tools (e.g., RDKit) and solid understanding of machine learning and neural network techniques
* Experience with modern development practices (e.g., Git, CI/CD, AI coding tools) and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), combined with strong problem-solving and communication skills
