Presents lectures and training to groups and/or individuals, as appropriate. 4. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education and individual, dual or team sports, utilising curriculum designated by Newport News Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities. 5. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program. 6. Analyses, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. 7. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the school's basic instructional philosophy. 8. Establishes and maintains standards of student behaviour to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. 9. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students. 10. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, etc. 11. Maintains control of storage and use of school property. 12. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports. 13. Communicates with parents and school counsellors on student progress. 14. Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day. 15. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
