Position Summary:

Make a difference in the academic journey of student-athletes!

This position works within the Office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes (OASSA) and reports on a daily operations basis to the Director of Student-Athlete Support. OASSA works closely with the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) and other academic support programs on campus in cooperation with the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Learning Initiatives.

The Academic Coordinator is responsible for providing day-to-day academic oversight to assigned athletic teams, which includes utilizing advising skills to provide academic and personal support while monitoring academic achievements. This position tracks and serves the academic support needs of student-athletes representing diverse populations and executes strategies for sustaining and improving academic services. This may include assisting in preparation of individualized educational plans for academically at risk student-athletes, coordinating tutorial services and other learning support, or teaching a first year experience course. Additional responsibilities for departmental programming include strong organization and communication around course registration, new student-athlete orientation, and coordination of the academic center. This position will communicate and collaborate with student-athletes, campus holistic advisors, coaches, administration, faculty, and staff about academic support services. All UD Athletics employees are expected to comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations governing the University, the NCAA and the Atlantic 10 Conference. Assist students in applying holistic strategies and techniques to promote student success, a sense of belonging and student agency. Co-teach summer bridge course as an introduction to life as a student athlete at UD.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.
Professional experience working with a wide range of collegiate student populations.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Strong organizational skills.
Experience planning and facilitating large group activities.
Knowledge of NCAA rules.
Competency in office technology and Google applications.
Self motivated and have the ability to work independently.
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings or weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Master's degree.
Experience advising Division I collegiate student-athletes.
Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse needs of all student populations (Honors, learning disabilities or multicultural/non US backgrounds.
Experience presenting to large groups.
Ability to work effectively in a team.
Experience with Banner, Cognos, DegreeWorks, or other web-based advising tools/applications.
Ability to manage multiple, concurrently running projects.
Experience resolving problem situations effectively.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment.
