Position Summary

The Leadership & Exchange (LeadEx) programs cultivate creative, inspired, and transformative next-generation leaders, facilitate meaningful professional exchanges, and strengthen international and cross-cultural understanding. By engaging diverse leaders across disciplines, sectors, and country contexts, LeadEx builds the networks and vision needed to drive lasting change. 

LeadEx is responsible for the design and administration of the Asia Foundation Development Fellows program, the LeadNext Fellows Program, the Young Asian Diplomats Program, the Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellowship in Asian Art, the William P. Fuller Fellowship in Peacebuilding Program, the Luce Scholars program, and more.  The unit is also responsible for the ongoing design and implementation of highly customized exchange programs for groups and individuals in support of Asia Foundation country office objectives. 

The LeadEx program team in San Francisco seeks a U.C. Berkeley LeadEx Fellow to provide key programmatic and administrative support for its flagship leadership development and exchange programs.  

 

Key Responsibilities 

Work closely with the LeadEx program team to: 

  • Collaborate with TAF Country Office staff and support the selection, onboarding, visa procurement, and travel arrangement processes for the 2026 LeadNext Fellows program; 
  • Provide logistical support for the 2026 LeadNext Fellows program including: support during virtual sessions in July and August; support during the in-person Summit in the San Francisco Bay Area in September 2026; documenting and curating photos; support with evaluation reports; 
  • Support the onboarding and implementation of the 2026 Margaret F. Williams Fellowship in Asian Art, presented in partnership with the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco including housing arrangements and move-in support for their program residence, liaising with fellows over the course of their summer fellowship.  
  • Support program planning and preparations for the San Francisco Bay Area program for the Asia Foundation Development Fellows in October 2026, and help to prepare materials for the launch of the application cycle for the 2027 Development Fellows program; 
  • Assist with the drafting, editing, and updating of program descriptions and updates;  
  • Support in preparing requests for payment and draft letters of agreement, amendments, and other program-related financial documents.  
  • Support with the preparation of webinars, and other events involving international grantees and participants;  
  • Help with the design of materials for social media and program promotion, including newsletters and impact reports;  
  • Support with outreach to various Fellowship program alumni to update grantee records, and capture stories of accomplishment and impact;  
  • Help identify potential funding opportunities to support ongoing programs, and design materials to support outreach and funding proposals;   
  • Support the application launch of 2027 LeadEx programs through preparing promotional materials, outreach, and supporting application systems and processes; 
  • Occasional travel in the San Francisco Bay area may be necessary. 

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Applicants for this LeadEx Fellow position must be currently enrolled or recent graduates of the University of California Berkeley; 
  • Previous administrative experience in supporting program and policy-related activities, event-planning functions, and outreach and communication strategies;  
  • Experience interacting with individuals from diverse countries and background;  
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;  
  • Familiarity with apps and tools for research, outreach, and administrative workflow are highly desirable;  
  • Ability to gracefully handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet all deadlines;  
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, as well as part of a team and with diverse staff;  
  • Demonstrated initiative and creative problem-solving skills;  
  • Prior work experience in an international development organization, policy organization, non-profit, or government office, particularly those focused on Asia, also a plus. 

 

Compensation 

This assignment offers up to 25 hours a month for five months and up to $40/hour.
