ACCOUNTABLE FOR: Delivering high-quality, safe, and timely handyman services that meet project specifications, resolve maintenance needs, and ensure resident satisfaction through reliable workmanship, proper documentation, and adherence to company standards and safety protocols.
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt W-2, Hourly – Full-Time
WORK SCHEDULE: This schedule reflects 8 hours per day, totaling 40 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM. Scheduling needs may vary based on business demands, and adjustments may be required as reasonably assigned.
COMPENSATION RANGE: $15.00 - $35.00 per hour commensurate on experience, education and credentials.
BENEFITS: This position is eligible for standard W-2 employee benefits, including but not limited to those outlined in the Company’s official benefits package. ANTICIPATED TRAVEL: 50% of the time. You will use a company vehicle. There is no additional compensation for travel.
SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a licensed and experienced Carpenter to support construction, repair, and maintenance projects across residential and commercial properties in the Baltimore area. This part-time role offers flexible hours and is ideal for a skilled tradesperson seeking project-based work or supplemental hours. The Carpenter will be responsible for performing general and specialized carpentry tasks, ensuring that all structures, fixtures, and finishes meet safety, quality, and aesthetic standards. Work may include emergency repairs, scheduled renovations, and capital improvement projects, in coordination with maintenance and property services teams.
SCHEDULED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Construct, install, repair, and maintain wooden structures such as framing, doors, windows, walls, staircases, cabinetry, and molding.
- Perform drywall installation and finishing, trim work, and interior/exterior repairs.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Read blueprints, drawings, and technical instructions to determine project specifications.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with local building codes and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical) during multi-scope projects.
- Accurately track and report materials used, hours worked, and progress made.
UNSCHEDULED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist supervisor with work-related requests.
- Responsible for following regulations of COMAR, CARF, any other regulatory body, and company policies/procedures related to service delivery and documentation and co-facilitating orientation of all new hires to these as well.
- Support the maintenance of a safe environment by participating in training and drills as requested.
- Maintain confidentiality of records relating to client’s treatment.
- Participate in external and internal audits/surveys (CARF/CSA/OHCQ) as directed by the supervisor.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement plans by completing periodic audits or other activities to ensure regulatory compliance and/or improve service delivery.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly walk, stand or stoop; occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 100 pounds; and regularly drive a motor vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Exposure to potentially hazardous materials, heights, and tight spaces.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in certain situations.
COMPETENCY AND SKILLS
- Proven experience as a handyman or in a similar maintenance role.
- Proficiency in a variety of trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
LEVEL OF EDUCATION / TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in residential and/or commercial carpentry.
- Strong knowledge of construction techniques, tools, equipment, and materials.
- Reliable transportation and own tools.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot on-site challenges.
- Must carry or be willing to obtain general liability insurance (if 1099).
- Experience in multi-unit housing, affordable housing, or supportive housing settings preferred.
- Ability to assess and quote materials/labor for small projects.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification is a plus.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Maryland Home Improvement Contractor (MHIC) license or similar credential is highly preferred.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
