We’re seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Mobile Mapping Technician / Driver to support active mobile mapping routes. This is a 6-month independent contractor opportunity, with the potential to extend or become permanent depending on project needs.
This role is fully travel-based and is ideal for someone who enjoys independent work, is comfortable with long driving days, and can confidently follow detailed route plans and daily instructions. You’ll operate a designated vehicle equipped with 360° camera and LiDAR technology, capturing roadway imagery and mapping data across assigned routes.
Full training will be provided on the equipment, route process, data handling, and daily reporting expectations. If you’re dependable, comfortable being on the road, and interested in supporting technology-driven infrastructure work, this could be a great opportunity to join the Encepta team.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Reporting to our internal project team, you will support mobile mapping delivery by safely driving assigned routes and ensuring accurate data collection. Your responsibilities will include:
- Driving assigned mobile mapping routes safely, accurately, and in line with daily instructions
- Operating and monitoring roof-mounted 360° camera and LiDAR equipment
- Following detailed route plans, schedules, and project requirements
- Completing basic vehicle and equipment checks before and during each shift
- Escalating equipment, route, or operational issues to the internal team as required
- Keeping the vehicle and mapping equipment clean, secure, and operational
- Maintaining regular communication with internal project teams
- Completing daily reporting and confirming route progress and completion
- Supporting accurate and consistent data capture across assigned mapping routes
What Success Looks Like
Within your first few weeks, you’ll be:
- Confidently operating the assigned mobile mapping vehicle and equipment
- Following route plans and daily instructions accurately and independently
- Completing long driving days safely and consistently
- Communicating clearly with internal teams regarding route progress, issues, or delays
- Maintaining vehicle and equipment readiness throughout the assignment
- Submitting accurate daily updates and route completion information
- Demonstrating reliability, professionalism, and strong attention to safety
What We’re Looking For
- Ability to commit to 100% travel for the duration of the assignment
- Comfortable driving for extended periods, typically 8–12 hours per day
- Able to work independently with limited supervision while following detailed instructions
- Basic comfort using GPS, mobile devices, and simple equipment troubleshooting
- Strong punctuality, consistency, and ability to follow daily route schedules
- Careful, responsible, and safety-conscious approach to driving and equipment handling
- Able to arrange your own out-of-town accommodations while travelling
