ERG is seeking a Generator Technician to support the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and regular testing of emergency and standby power generation systems. This position requires experience with diesel and natural gas generators, electrical distribution equipment, and preventive maintenance programs. This full-time position is at the Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head. Indian Head, Maryland, is approximately 30 miles from Washington, D.C.; 25 miles from Alexandria, Virginia; and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel, natural gas, and propane-powered generators
Conduct routine operational testing, load bank testing, and emergency power system exercises
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, and control system issues
Review technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications to diagnose equipment problems
Respond to generator failures and emergency service calls to restore critical power systems
Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, environmental requirements, and client procedures
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in facilities maintenance, engineering, or a related field is preferred
Minimum of 3 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial, industrial, or mission-critical generator systems
Experience troubleshooting diesel engine systems, electrical controls, and power generation equipment
Proven history of standing up PM program and familiarity with PM program metrics a plus.
Working knowledge of generators ranging from small portable units to large industrial (500kW+) standby systems
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Military, federal facility, or mission-critical infrastructure experience is preferred
This position will require a pre-employment physical exam
This position requires lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds
Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, noise, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals)
You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
Must be able to perform work above shoulder level, including reaching, lifting, and manipulating tools and materials overhead
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and reach during shifts
Must be able to use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move items
Must be able to safely climb and descend ladders, stairways, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms and perform work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet (where applicable)
Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance
Must be a U.S. citizen, as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations
