Etched is seeking a versatile Lab Technician to join our hardware team. You will play a crucial role in supporting engineering projects across electrical, thermal, and mechanical disciplines, keeping our state-of-the-art labs running smoothly as we scale to rapid production.

This is a hands-on role. You'll set up experiments, perform debug tasks, collect data, and maintain the organization and functionality of our lab environment. Our engineers move fast and rely on a well-run lab to validate designs, troubleshoot issues, and iterate quickly. Responsibilities

Set up and configure test equipment and experiments for electrical, thermal, and mechanical engineering teams.

Perform debug tasks and assist engineers with hands-on troubleshooting during bring-up and validation.

Collect, organize, and document test data to support engineering analysis and decision-making.

Maintain lab organization, inventory, and equipment functionality. Ensure tools and systems are calibrated, accessible, and ready for use.

Support water cooling system setup and maintenance for high-power server environments.
→
Perform soldering, cable assembly, and board-level rework as needed.
→
Coordinate with engineers across multiple disciplines to prioritize lab support needs and keep projects moving.

Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and mechanical engineers to set up and maintain test systems.

Assist in the development and light debugging of test fixtures and lab setups.
→
Conduct data collection and basic analysis to support electrical engineering projects.
→
Perform light rework and electrical soldering as needed.
→
Maintain and troubleshoot water cooling setups and other lab equipment.
→
Ensure general lab maintenance for optimal operation and safety.
→
Provide timely technical support for various testing and project needs.
→
Help oversee general lab activities and lab setup, equipment maintenance, equipment and supply procurement for the lab.

Requirements

Proven experience as a lab technician or similar role in an engineering environment.
Basic understanding of electrical circuitry and soldering techniques.
Familiarity with water cooling systems and general lab maintenance procedures.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering team environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Experienced and comfortable working safely around 50V high-voltage servers.

Server or datacenter hardware environments
Thermal test setups and instrumentation
Oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other standard EE lab equipment

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in San Jose and Taipei, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
