Green Season Camps Program Team Leader

Evergreen Outdoor Center – Hakuba, Nagano, Japan

Join the Evergreen Leadership Team for an Unforgettable 2026 Green Season!

Exciting opportunities are now open to become a Program Team Leader in our Green Season camps! We're seeking enthusiastic leaders for the following programs:

  • Nagano Ninjas (ages 7–8) – Playful, adventurous entry-level outdoor fun for our youngest explorers.
  • Water Wizards & Mountain Masters (ages 9–12) – Hands-on discovery of lakes, rivers, mountains, and ecosystems.
  • Japan Alps (ages 13–16) – Immersive leadership-focused adventures with epic challenges in the Northern Japanese Alps.

Work closely with our experienced Camps Manager to elevate our programs, delivering safe, fun, and meaningful experiences that create lasting memories for campers in the breathtaking Hakuba Valley.

This dynamic role blends outdoor leadership, indoor coordination, and team management. You'll guide a team of counselors and guides to ensure every day runs smoothly across multiple locations. Previous leadership experience is a plus but not required—this is an excellent opportunity to develop supervisory skills, grow in the outdoor education industry, and build a foundation for future roles in camping, adventure tourism, or youth development.

Key Responsibilities

As a Program Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead and support a wide range of engaging activities, including nature hikes, arts & crafts, team-building games, outdoor cooking, campfires, indoor games, water-based adventures (e.g., rafting, SUP), and mountain exploration.
  • Manage a team of up to 15 counselors/guides: assign staff to activities, maintain safe camper-to-staff ratios, coordinate schedules, track working hours, and complete accurate timesheets for payroll.
  • Collaborate with fellow Team Leaders to share resources and staffing needs.
  • Organize efficient camper arrivals/departures (including Tokyo train pickups/drop-offs), room allocations, check-in/out processes, and daily transitions.
  • Run daily team meetings to review weather, safety updates, camper numbers, and operational priorities.
  • Ensure all activities start and run on time, with strong supervision, adaptability, and quick problem-solving.
  • Oversee lunch distribution, coordinate locations/times, verify dietary requirements, and work with hotel/kitchen staff for accuracy.
  • Maintain camp facilities and equipment: cleaning, proper use, setup/teardown, and reporting hazards, repairs, or incidents promptly (using appropriate forms).
  • Promote cost control, energy conservation, and adherence to safety/operating standards.
  • Act as a positive role model: foster inclusivity, courtesy, fairness, and a can-do attitude while prioritizing exceptional guest (camper) service.
  • Handle diverse operational needs with strong multitasking, forward planning, and communication across cultures and nationalities.

Additional Duties
Due to the dynamic nature of camp operations, you may occasionally assist with tasks outside your primary role (as directed by management), including supporting other teams or filling in as needed.

Requirements
To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • Passion for the outdoors, working with children/teens, and creating transformative experiences.
  • Previous experience as a camp counselor, outdoor guide, or in youth programs (preferred; outdoor industry knowledge is a strong advantage).
  • Strong leadership potential, teamwork mindset, and desire to grow as a people leader.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) for campers, staff, parents, and international teams.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Proficiency with computers (scheduling, timesheets, basic admin tools).
  • Physical fitness to actively participate in activities: running, climbing, swimming, lifting/supporting children, and full-day outdoor work.
  • Upbeat, engaging personality with adaptability and flexibility in fast-paced, variable conditions.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before starting) is highly beneficial.
  • Eligibility to work in Japan (appropriate visa/status).

What We Offer

  • Live and work in one of Japan's most stunning alpine locations—Hakuba, at the heart of the Northern Japan Alps.
  • Hands-on leadership experience in a professional outdoor education setting.
  • Opportunity to build skills in team management, program delivery, safety, and guest service.
  • Supportive team environment with room to innovate and contribute to program success.
  • A stepping stone for careers in outdoor education, adventure guiding, youth development, or beyond.

If you're energetic, responsible, and excited to inspire the next generation in Japan's incredible outdoors, we want to hear from you!
