The Sterile Processing Technician I plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical instruments used in manufacturing and healthcare settings. This position is responsible for the meticulous cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment to meet stringent quality and safety standards. The technician ensures that all instruments are properly inspected and maintained to prevent contamination and infection risks. Working closely with manufacturing and quality assurance teams, the role supports the seamless flow of sterile products essential for patient care and operational efficiency. Ultimately, the Sterile Processing Technician I contributes to maintaining a sterile environment that upholds regulatory compliance and promotes patient safety.

Requirements

  • Physical ability to handle repetitive tasks and stand for extended periods.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or healthcare sterile processing environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as OSHA and FDA standards.
  • Proficiency with sterilization equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of data entry, ERP, and job traveler execution.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning and decontamination of surgical instruments and medical devices using manual and automated methods.
  • Inspect instruments for damage, wear, and cleanliness to ensure they meet quality standards before sterilization.
  • Assemble instrument sets according to established protocols and prepare them for sterilization processes.
  • Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ensure proper documentation of sterilization cycles.
  • Maintain accurate records of instrument processing activities and adhere to infection control policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to address any issues related to instrument functionality or sterilization.
  • Ensure the sterile storage and distribution of processed instruments to appropriate departments or clients.
  • Working knowledge of data entry, Epicor ERPexecution.

The required skills enable the technician to perform precise cleaning, inspection, and sterilization of instruments, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Attention to detail and adherence to protocols are essential for maintaining sterile conditions and preventing contamination. Physical stamina and manual dexterity support the handling and assembly of delicate instruments throughout the workday. Preferred skills such as certification and experience enhance the technician's ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and improve process efficiency. Effective communication and organizational skills facilitate collaboration with team members and accurate documentation of sterilization activities.
