Position: Swiss Machinist

Reports To: Production Manager

Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday - Friday, 4:30 PM - 3:00 AM

The Machinist is responsible for operating precision CNC manufacturing equipment to produce high-quality medical device components that meet established specifications, tolerances, and production requirements. This role ensures product quality through accurate inspection techniques, adherence to documented procedures, and compliance with applicable regulatory and quality system requirements. The Machinist performs routine machine adjustments, tooling changes, preventive maintenance activities, and supports continuous improvement efforts while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate assigned precision CNC machinery in accordance with established work instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  • Receive and review process travelers to verify that revisions and documentation are accurate and current.
  • Receive material and load bar feeders, fixtures, or workholding devices as required.
  • Verify that the correct machine program is loaded and that program revisions match traveler documentation.
  • Maintain acceptable production rates while ensuring compliance with quality requirements.
  • Perform machine offsets and adjustments as necessary to maintain part conformance to blueprint specifications.
  • Replace tooling and cutting tools as required to support production and quality objectives.
  • Inspect components using precision measuring instruments and inspection methods according to established inspection plans.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to blueprint specifications and customer requirements.
  • Identify, segregate, and red-tag out-of-specification (OOS) products and submit nonconforming material to Quality for disposition.
  • Follow line clearance procedures and maintain product traceability throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Support compliance with ISO 13485, FDA regulations, and company quality standards.
  • Perform daily and routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment according to established standards.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, machinery, tooling, and equipment.
  • Ensure machines and surrounding workspaces are free of excess oil, debris, and contaminants.
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or process abnormalities to leadership promptly.
  • Attend and actively participate in required meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Support team objectives and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of machinist experience, preferably within a medical device manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating CNC equipment in a precision manufacturing environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in an ISO 13485 and FDA-regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience producing tight-tolerance components and performing in-process inspections.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of precision measuring instruments including:
    • Calipers
    • ID/OD Micrometers
    • Depth Gauges
    • Indicators
    • Plug Gauges
    • Thread Go/No-Go Gauges
  • General understanding of testing equipment, statistical methods, and control plans.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, and basic algebra.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot machining and quality-related issues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, production demands, and business needs.

Consistently produces work that meets specifications and quality standards while following documented procedures and inspection requirements.

Maintains a high degree of accuracy when reviewing documentation, operating equipment, and inspecting products.

Analyzes issues, identifies root causes, and implements effective corrective actions within established guidelines.
