Summary:
The Superintendent is responsible for concurrently managing multiple heavy civil and concrete project sites. This includes ensuring that job tasks are completed on time and within budget while meeting quality and safety requirements. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with exceptional organizational skills, technical expertise, and the ability to lead diverse teams across various locations. The descriptions below are representative of, but not limited to, the duties and responsibilities for this position.
Five Key Roles of the Superintendent:
- Track and manage project budgets and manpower utilization across job tasks to ensure projects meet financial performance targets in coordination with the project management team.
- Review Field Production Report from Procore daily and validate the accuracy of manhours and production quantities.
Create & maintain project specific 6-week look ahead manpower & asset schedule to be distributed weekly to PM, & general supervision.- Ensure that all manpower & equipment scheduling and mobilization is complete for each job and cascaded to the project teams by 5:00pm the day prior.
- Ensure approval status from F&B PM on all T&M and change order work before starting production in the field.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee daily operations across multiple locations, ensuring effective allocation of resources, labor, and equipment.
Develop and mentor concrete support crews- this includes the recruitment, performance management, mentoring/training of these team members.
Review and approve the previous day's timesheets and daily reports by 10:00am and address any issues with the team.
Make recommendations and oversee equipment and staffing needs for assigned projects.
Validate and schedule equipment, forms, shoring etc. for each job.
Implement F&B standards for means and methods relating to all constructability decisions and sequencing (pour sizes, layouts, staging, etc.) on all projects, and ensure quality standards on all projects.
Hold Foremen & Site Superintendents accountable to meet production rates on all assigned jobs.
Review project schedule to ensure manpower, materials and subcontractors are staged and ready for the project.
Hold the field teams accountable for the completion of daily safety inspections, toolbox talks, and job site cleanliness to reduce potential safety hazards.
Ensure daily man-hour targets are met on all assigned jobs.
Constant communication with General Superintendent to ensure job progress is understood and all risks are evaluated and mitigated.
Validate Miss Dig/811/One Call has been completed for all projects.
Review equipment utilization and driving optimization when feasible.
Resolve conflicts and disputes to minimize delays and claims.- Instruct and enforce field staff on the processes, policies, and procedures essential to the project.
- Manage subcontractors and vendors across all sites, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and performance standards.
- Communicating and upholding the Company’s commitment to Integrity and Code of Ethics.
- Other relevant tasks as assigned.
Education, Experience & Qualifications:
- At least ten (10) years of experience in heavy civil or concrete construction
At least five (5) years in concrete or heavy civil construction as a job site leader.- Creative and results-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Advanced ability to interpret complex blueprints, site plans, and topographical specifications.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with proven success managing diverse teams across multiple locations.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety (required); First Aid/CPR; ACI and SWPPP certifications preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely in a positive manner with team members.
Travel:
Travel is required for this position. Travel may include, but is not limited to, travel from office to various job sites. Fessler and Bowman will compensate for travel when applicable.
Work Environment:
As a Superintendent, you will be subject to various work environments. Environments include but are not limited to the following: office and field settings, high/low temperatures, areas close to traffic, loud and frequent noises, confined spaces, heights, indoor/outdoor settings.
