FIREFLY is seeking a temporary full time (1 Year), with possibility of extension, Registered Dietitian to join our team, providing services across the region through a combination of in-person and virtual care.
About FIREFLY
FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization committed to strengthening the health and well-being of children, youth, and families. We provide community-based, mental health, and developmental services across Northwestern Ontario in partnership with families, schools, child care centres, and community organizations.
About the Role
As a Registered Dietitian at FIREFLY, you will support children and youth experiencing eating disorders, complex feeding challenges, and nutritional concerns to achieve optimal health and well-being through evidence-informed, family-centred care.
You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver assessment, treatment, and consultation services, partnering closely with families, caregivers, and community providers to ensure coordinated and responsive care.
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional screening and assessments for children and youth.
- Develop and implement individualized, evidence-informed nutrition care plans.
- Monitor progress and adjust interventions to support optimal health outcomes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support integrated client care.
- Provide education, training, and support to families, caregivers, and schools.
- Consult with community agencies to enhance service coordination and continuity of care.
- Contribute to program development, evaluation, and resource creation.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic clinical documentation.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to collaborative decision-making.
- Travel within the FIREFLY service region and provide services based on client needs.
This role requires flexibility, including some evening work and travel across the service area.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a Canadian accredited food and/or nutrition program and completion of a Clinical Internship Program
- Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Dietitians
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant clinical experience is preferred
- Experience providing nutrition counselling to individuals and groups, including community outreach
- Experience working with children, youth, and families is considered an asset
Skills & Competencies:
Clinical Assessment & Treatment
- Strong ability to assess nutritional needs and develop effective treatment plans
- Knowledge of disordered eating, eating disorders, and evidence-based interventions (e.g. Family-Based Treatment (FBT))
- Experience supporting children with developmental disabilities and complex feeding or swallowing challenges
- Commitment to Health At Every Size® principles and non-diet approaches
Collaboration & Communication
- Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build trusting relationships with families, caregivers, and service providers
Cultural Responsiveness
- Knowledge of and experience working with First Nations communities and Anishinaabe culture is an asset
- Commitment to inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive care
Organization & Professional Practice
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage a caseload and balance competing priorities
- Proficiency with electronic documentation systems
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s licence in good standing
- Fluency in French is an asset
