Summary
Under the direction of the CFO, the Finance Manager – Operations will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations and leadership of the project analyst and shared services group at the Fort McKay Group of Companies. The incumbent will work closely with Management and the Executive Team to accomplish the company’s goals and objectives based on the business and partnership plans.
Key Focus
Lead, manage, and be proactive in all day-to-day finance and accounting for the Project Analysis group, including functional responsibility in daily, weekly, monthly financial review, posting, financial analysis, , internal financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and related reconciliations.
Works directly with project managers to obtain key inputs (such as labour and equipment hours) to delivery a monthly consolidated financial forecast
Work with project managers to co-lead monthly project review meetings, which highlight key variances and operating issues that have a financial impact.
Work with project analysis team to prepare monthly reporting and analysis on budget to actual results
Responsible for content, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial reporting to the Management and Executive Team as required. Report any trends that are critical to the organization's financial performance
Provide analysis and support for labour rates for project bidding
Deliver an annual consolidated Operating Cost Financial Forecast
Manage and lead the Project Analyst staff. Work closely with team members and provide leadership, education, mentoring, evaluation, and constructive feedback on operational, finance, accounting procedures, and performance related matters. Foster a cooperative and engaged team, resolve conflicts, and provide sounds decisions within the limits of authority.
Provide support to the Shared Services Supervisor to manage the daily tasks of the team, including time entry for payroll and billing, reconciliation to internal payroll system and client billing system, properly allocate workload amongst the team, address staffing issues and concerns
Maintains a respectful and positive relationship with the vendors, service providers, and internal and external clients, acts as a liaison with various financial institutions and insurance providers.
Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, financial reporting, and other support as required.
Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, position control documents, department budgets, general ledger, account, and system maintenance.
Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Completion of post-secondary education with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required.
Candidates with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree are an asset.
At least 10+ years of progressive experience in the Oil/Gas or Mining industry in a Finance or Accounting role, with at least 5+ years of experience in supervising/managing a department is preferred.
A valid Class 5 License (or equivalent) is required, along with a satisfactory 3-year Drivers Abstract. Candidates must possess a valid Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
Experience in SAP and/or Ceridian Dayforce is considered an asset.
Experience with ACCPAC or Vista by Viewpoint is an asset.
Exceptional knowledge of full cycle accounting practices and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS.
Strong experience with creating financial statements to IFRS and GAAP standards, general ledger functions, and the month end/year end close out process.
Able to participate and facilitate presentations to small and large groups of internal or external clients.
Strong knowledge and experience in finance, cash flow analysis, cost control and management.
Strong business acumen and professionalism, with an ability to provide sounds financial and business recommendations and understand the need to mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile.
Excellent time management skills, with a strong ability to foster effective time management practices to their staff.
This is a full time position located in Fort McMurray, AB.
Work Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day
