Health Program & Policy Intern

Job Summary:
The Summer Intern will provide project support across a variety of health data and policy engagements that transform healthcare across the nation. Working approximately 20–30 hours per week from June through August, the Intern will contribute to a range of projects that may include health program implementation, health care system planning, development of crosswalks for internal and client use, and analytic projects. The position is designed to provide a meaningful, structured learning experience for an undergraduate or graduate student exploring a career in health policy, healthcare insurance or markets, or data science. The Summer Intern is supervised by a Consultant or more senior member of the FHC team and will work with their supervisor at the start of the internship to develop a learning plan that ensures the experience is enriching and aligned with the Intern’s interests and FHC’s company goals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts research on diverse topics (internet, academic journals, publicly available data resources, stakeholder interviews)
- Presents information in a range of formats (PowerPoint, written summaries, spreadsheets)
- Prepares working drafts of documents for team members’ review; incorporates edits to create well formatted, client-ready, final versions
- Supports development of crosswalks, reference materials, and other tools for internal and client use.
- Contributes to analytic projects, including data organization, basic analysis, and presentation of findings.
- Arranges meetings, prepares agendas, provides meeting summaries
- Compiles action items and reports on completion
- Develops working knowledge of project management tools and techniques to support ongoing project efforts.
- Partners with supervisor at the start of the internship to develop a learning plan that defines goals, deliverables, and growth opportunities for the summer.
- Conforms to policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
Required Skills/Abilities:
At hire:
- Excellent self-motivation and time management skills, with the ability to thrive in a remote work environment
- Aptitude for learning new subject matter and complex concepts quickly
- Strong formal and informal interpersonal skills
- Excellent written communication skills in varied formats (e.g., action-oriented emails, brief meeting summaries/action items, and concise, audience-appropriate slide decks); a writing sample may be requested
- Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, exceptional follow-through, and task management
- Experience in MS Office Suite, including Excel
- Demonstrated interest in health care data, public healthcare payers, U.S. health care policy and law, healthcare insurance or markets, or data science
Acquired during employment:
- Adopts and incorporates project management techniques and strategies
- Demonstrates increasingly sophisticated understanding of assigned tasks and project context
- Expands familiarity with FHC’s project management tools
- Develops foundational knowledge of state health data systems, health policy environments, and the consulting project lifecycle.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program
- Coursework or demonstrated interest in health policy, public health, health administration, public policy, economics, statistics, data science, or a related field
- Prior coursework, research experience, internship, or work experience in a healthcare, policy, or analytic environment preferred but not required
- Advanced Excel data analysis skills, exposure to statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, Stata), or familiarity with data visualization tools a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

- This is a paid, part-time summer internship of approximately 20-30 hours per week, running June through August. The position is fully remote.
