Position Summary
The Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech) performs diagnostic imaging examinations to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. This role is responsible for producing high-quality radiographic images while ensuring patient safety, radiation protection, and adherence to clinical protocols in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic imaging procedures including general X-rays and fluoroscopy (as applicable)
- Position patients accurately to obtain optimal image quality
- Operate radiologic equipment safely and efficiently
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards (ALARA principles)
- Verify patient identity and review imaging orders for accuracy
- Collaborate with physicians and radiologists to support diagnostic interpretation
- Maintain accurate documentation in PACS/RIS systems
- Assist in trauma and emergency imaging as needed
- Provide patient education regarding imaging procedures and safety
Patient Population / Setting
- Emergency Department (trauma and acute imaging)
- Inpatient hospital units
- Outpatient imaging services (if assigned)
- Surgical and procedural support (fluoroscopy cases, if applicable)
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology or equivalent
- Current certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (or eligibility required)
- Valid Louisiana state Radiologic Technologist license (required prior to employment or within defined timeframe if permitted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred:
- 1+ year clinical radiology experience (hospital preferred)
- Trauma or emergency imaging experience
- Experience with PACS/RIS systems
- Additional certifications (CT, fluoroscopy, or advanced modalities)
Work Environment & Schedule
- 12-hour or 8-hour shifts (based on department needs)
- Rotating weekends and holidays
- Fast-paced acute care hospital environment
- On-call coverage may be required depending on modality
