Garage powers the exchange of critical assets across America’s essential industries. We started with fire departments, where purchasing mission-critical vehicles and equipment used to take months of paperwork, phone calls, and delays. Our agentic platform automates the entire transaction: discovery, payments, freight, paperwork, warranty, and financing. What once took months now takes minutes.
In under a year, we’ve expanded to cities and towns in all 50 states and grown revenue more than 10x. Based in New York, we’ve raised $18M from Y Combinator, Initialized Capital, Infinity Ventures, FJ Labs, and other leading investors. We’re moving fast, growing quickly, and just getting started.
About the Role
~1 min readAs Accounting Lead, you will own the accounting foundation for Garage as we scale a transaction-heavy marketplace across essential industries. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll partner closely with the Finance Lead to keep the books accurate, the close reliable, and the accounting operations ready for the next stage of growth.
Own Garage’s books in QuickBooks Online, including accurate financial statements, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
Lead GAAP accrual accounting across AP, AR, payroll coordination, vendor payments, expenses, sales commissions, and related workflows.
Reconcile marketplace transactions, payments, settlements, and funds movement across internal systems and external partners.
Build and improve accounting processes, close calendars, review routines, documentation, and controls that can scale with the business.
Partner with the Finance Lead to provide clean, reliable accounting inputs for planning, reporting, and business decision-making.
Identify and resolve accounting operations issues quickly, bringing structure and clarity to complex or ambiguous workflows.
Help Garage prepare for future audits, diligence requests, systems upgrades, and a more mature accounting function as the company grows.
Loves being hands-on with the details while also building systems that make the whole company more reliable.
Feels excited by the accounting complexity of a fast-growing marketplace, including high transaction volume, money movement, and operational edge cases.
Enjoys creating order from ambiguity and can move quickly without sacrificing accuracy or judgment.
Gets motivated by owning the accounting function at an early-stage company where the foundation you build will matter for years.
Has a high bar for precision, follow-through, and financial integrity, especially when money movement and customer trust are involved.
Works well with founders and cross-functional teams, translating accounting needs into clear actions and practical processes.
Brings an operator mindset from a lean finance or accounting team and prefers solving real business problems over adding unnecessary complexity.
3+ years of accounting experience, ideally including ownership of accounting operations in a lean or high-growth environment.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Strong experience with QuickBooks Online and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Strong knowledge of GAAP accrual accounting, including AP, AR, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement management.
Excellent reconciliation skills across multiple bank accounts, payment flows, systems, and vendors.
Ability to build, document, and improve accounting processes rather than only execute existing ones.
Strong organizational judgment and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple accounting workstreams at once.
Comfort operating in ambiguity and taking ownership in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
