In response to continued growth in our business, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Business Partner to join our Queensland Health, Safety & Environment team. While Townsville is the preferred location for this role, we will also consider candidates based near any of our Queensland offices.
The position plays a key role in supporting regional HSE requirements across Queensland through effective business partnering with leaders and teams. The role provides practical HSE advice, coaching and support to employees and leaders, driving positive safety outcomes and effective risk management. As required, the position will also support the delivery of HSE initiatives and provide advisory services to field-based operations, projects and client-facing activities across the region.
In this senior, high-impact role, you will:
- Assist in the development, delivery and monitoring of local HSE strategies to protect the health, safety and welfare of our staff, prevent environmental harm and instill a strong HSE culture.
- Coach and mentor internal clients in the effective implementation of the HSE Management system
- Undertake HSE project reviews of risk management documentation, including contractor management and Safety in Design.
- Assist in identifying legal requirements, monitoring and communicating legislative changes and evaluating compliance within region
- Coordinate the timely investigation of incident and hazard reports, including developing and monitoring the effectiveness of corrective actions
- Manage workers compensation claims for Region.
- Assist with achievement of continual improvement and maintaining external certifications in the region; AS/NZ 4801 / ISO45001 (OH&S) and ISO 14001 (Environmental).
What you will bring to the team
- Diploma OH&S or equivalent and Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment
- 7+ years’ experience in a similar role, within high-risk industries
- Strong working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Legislation, including Safety in Design requirements
- Knowledge of Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act would be an advantage.
- ICAM or equivalent Investigation qualification
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, including sound consultation and negotiation skills
- Experience in the facilitation of HSE Risk Management tools and methodologies (e.g. Bowtie, HAZOP and HAZID)
- Experience in managing workers’ compensation claims and rehabilitation.
