About the Role

GiveDirectly has crossed $1B in cash delivered to people living in poverty, and we’re building the finance function to match that scale. The Senior Manager, Finance - DRC is a pivotal role in GiveDirectly's finance structure. This position will lead a finance pod responsible for end-to-end financial management for DRC and potentially additional countries or areas of operation. The Senior Manager will report to the Controller while maintaining strong collaborative relationships with Country Directors and implementing a centralized yet accountable finance model.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary finance contact for DRC and potential additional assigned countries, providing financial oversight and support to the Country Director.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, Budget-to-Actual reviews, donor financial reporting, and invoicing.
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee country-level accounting activities, including transaction review, coding, reconciliations, and financial data integrity.
  • Provide hands-on support to country teams through regular financial reviews, spot checks, and field visits to strengthen financial management and operational planning.
  • Strengthen internal controls, compliance, and fraud prevention in DRC and potential additional assigned countries
  • Monitor financial and operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures, including spot checks of transactions, advances, allowances, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, local regulations, tax obligations, and organizational policies.
  • Lead country audit preparation, external reporting requirements, and follow-up on audit findings.
  • Manage relationships with banks, auditors, regulators, and government stakeholders to support treasury operations, compliance, and organizational representation.
  • Lead and develop a pod of finance staff, establishing clear accountability and performance expectations.
  • Drive process and system improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency across finance operations.
  • Partner with country teams to build financial management capacity and provide day-to-day support on finance, procurement, and operational processes.
  • Collaborate with the broader finance team on systems improvements, automation, better use of AI, and process standardization.
  • Foster strong working relationships across country and global teams, serving as a bridge between local operations and central finance functions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in accounting or finance, with strong experience in budgeting and reporting.
  • Fluency in English and French.
  • OHADA experience is preferred.
  • Competence in spreadsheets and financial & accounting software (e.g. Intacct, QuickBooks), and enthusiasm for using AI and automation.
  • Proven experience working in a fast-paced, high volume, or matrixed work environment.

Base Salary: $90,000
Bonus at Target Performance: 15% (~$9,000 with potential for upside. For reference, with the organization’s current performance multiplier, this amount would be $10.530 in 2025)
Estimated Total Compensation at Target: $99,000+
