Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Mine Maintenance Specialist will support the safe and efficient maintenance of mining mobile equipment at the Tocantinzinho mining operation in Pará, Brazil. The role will focus on coordinating planned maintenance, improving field execution, and supporting troubleshooting and equipment recovery. This position requires strong hands-on experience with heavy mining equipment, proven field leadership, and a strong commitment to health and safety standards.
Working Conditions
The Mine Maintenance Specialist at the Tocantinzinho site in Brazil will be a rotation-based role, offering flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the successful candidate’s location and personal preferences.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Management
- Coordinate and execute efficient Planned Maintenance (PM) for mining mobile equipment.
- Improve the quality and efficiency of maintenance execution in the field.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed on schedule and in accordance with equipment isolation requirements and OEM standards.
- Support breakdown troubleshooting and critical equipment recovery.
- Work closely with operations to prioritize maintenance activities safely and effectively.
2. Leadership and People Management
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop maintenance supervisors, tradespeople, and field crews through hands-on coaching, technical training, performance feedback, and knowledge sharing.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety standards, procedures, and regulations.
- Build team accountability, operational discipline, and a continuous improvement mindset.
3. Health Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with site safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote safe work practices, including proper lockout/tagout, equipment isolation, lifting, and working-at-height procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
- Identify field-level safety risks and support the implementation of preventative controls.
4. Reliability and Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, availability, and maintenance execution.
- Support root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in improving preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to downtime reduction, maintenance quality, and equipment performance.
5. Planning, Parts, and Cost Control
- Work with maintenance planners to ensure work orders are properly prepared, scheduled, and executed.
- Coordinate with warehouse and maintenance planning teams to support spare parts planning and ensure parts, components, and critical spares are available for planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
- Monitor maintenance priorities to support cost-effective equipment performance.
- Provide input on maintenance budgets, major component change-outs, and equipment repair strategies.
Requirements
Experience
- More than 20 years of experience in mining equipment maintenance.
- Extensive experience with heavy mining mobile equipment (haul trucks, excavators, loaders, drills, dozers, graders, ancillary equipment, etc.).
- Proven experience in project management and field leadership.
- Strong Health & Safety leadership experience in mining operations.
- Experience working in remote mining environments preferred.
Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated people management and team development capabilities.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
