Assist the in-person doctor or the optometric telehealth team in preparing the patient for their exam through pre-testing and gathering of important health information. Thoroughly explain all testing and accurately record all information for the doctor to review. Educate patients on the proper use of eyeglasses and contact lenses. Maintain patient records and update as necessary; ensure confidentiality with all patient information according to HIPAA policy.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Perform a variety of direct patient care duties, including preliminary testing, patient workups, and other related clinical or scribing activities as assigned by practice leadership or doctor
- Prior to pre-testing, in the presence of the patient, clean all machine chin and forehead rests with an alcohol pad
- Perform lensometry work to determine the patient’s previous prescription in eyewear
- Gather prior glasses and contact lens information from most recent exam (including from other eyecare center)
- Perform diagnostic pre-testing, clearly explaining the process to patients (auto-refractor, tonometry, etc.) as directed by presiding doctor and accurately documenting results after each test
- Gather medical records and patient information (including EHR and TO documentation
- Maintain confidentiality with all patient information according to HIPAA
- Maintain patient flow by providing a transition of care from the in-person doctor or optometric telehealth lane to the sales floor including a strong hand off to the optician who will complete the patients visit
- Understanding basics of Managed Vision Care (MVC) plans and effectively articulate benefits to the patient
- Accurately pull contact lens trials when requested by the doctor
- Maintain clinical supplies and ensure the inventory is not expired
- Greet patients and customers
- Confirm in person or optometric telehealth appointments
Requirements

- High School graduate or equivalent
- Vocational school or 2–4-year college degree preferred
- Combination of education and/or equivalent work experience in a related field
- Experience with technology such as medical devices or equipment
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills
- Able to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify problems and develop solutions
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail

- Able to read and write at a high school graduate level
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Able to operate various office equipment (e.g., tablet, personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.)
- Ability to lift 10 to 20 pounds
- Ability to see (Near, Distance, Color, and Depth Perception)
- Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand/arm steadiness
- Ability to grip and hold items
- Good eye and hand coordination
- Able to operate a cash register, various optical equipment and tools
- Able to work normal and/or extended (evenings, nights, and weekends) office hours to meet established deadlines
- Able to travel independently to support Company objectives and personal development
