In this role, you will help maintain and repair a wide range of fleet and utility equipment critical to supporting GVEA's operations and service reliability.

GVEA is an electric cooperative that owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, which extends from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social viability of our communities.

As a Mechanic at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing the fleet and utility equipment that supports GVEA's operations across Interior Alaska. Working in a hands-on shop environment, you will troubleshoot, inspect, maintain, and repair a variety of light- and heavy-duty vehicles, utility equipment, and specialized machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation.

In this role, you will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnose mechanical issues, and support equipment reliability while working alongside a skilled team in a safety-focused environment. You will also assist with maintaining an organized and efficient shop, ensuring equipment and tools are properly maintained and ready to support daily operations.

To succeed as a Mechanic at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates should possess strong mechanical aptitude and experience in maintaining and repairing fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, or utility equipment. Successful candidates will demonstrate troubleshooting ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe work practices in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will be dependable, team-oriented, and able to work independently while managing multiple maintenance priorities. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with operations and maintenance personnel are essential.

Candidates must be able to safely operate shop equipment and tools while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. A commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement is critical for success in this role.

Requirements for the position are:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational training in vehicle and equipment maintenance required
  • Valid Alaska Class A Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Excellent driving record required; current driving record must be submitted with employment application
  • Three years of experience inspecting and performing maintenance on utility and fleet vehicles
  • Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of boom and bucket trucks, requiring dielectric testing preferred
  • Experience in fabrication and welding preferred
