- Strong leadership and organisational skills for effective resource management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in cross-cultural settings.

🏠 Living Conditions
You’ll be based in Pak Meng, a laid-back coastal village in southern Thailand, with our hub operating from Dugong Village Hotel - an eco-friendly 4-star property where participants are accommodated, and our base office is located. Just a short walk away is a long protected beach known for spectacular sunsets.
Staff live in a modern, spacious three-bedroom, two-bathroom shared house, complete with cooking facilities and a communal living area. The home opens onto a beautiful garden that leads directly to the ocean, with sweeping views of the limestone karsts — an extraordinary setting to call home.
🍽️ Food
All meals are covered by GVI.
Breakfast is typically prepared at home, with groceries supplied, while lunches and dinners are often shared with participants at local restaurants — a great way to enjoy Thai cuisine and connect as a team.
🚗 Getting Around
- We use a shared hire car or van (depending on volunteer numbers) for program logistics and transportation, and staff share driving responsibilities, so an international driving licence is essential.
- Many schools and community placements are also accessible by bicycle or on foot.
🧗 Fitness & Conditions
- This is an active, hands-on role suited to someone comfortable working in warm, tropical conditions.
- You should be reasonably fit and prepared for a dynamic mix of community work and occasional support alongside our conservation team - whether assisting in the field, gathering social media content, or joining outdoor activities.
- Flexibility, energy, and a willingness to immerse yourself in the environment will help you thrive here.
🧳 Packing & Gear
We recommend bringing:
- Sturdy shoes for hikes and field activities
- Sandals for everyday wear
- Lightweight trousers and shoulder-covering tops for school and cultural settings
- A light rain jacket for the rainy season
- Mask, snorkel and fins
- Swimwear and a rash vest
- Light, breathable clothing for the tropical climate
- Phone or camera for capturing experiences
- Binoculars (optional, but a bonus)
Pack practical, pack light, and be ready for adventure.
🌍 Other Perks
Beyond the experience in Thailand, this role offers:
- Career growth opportunities across 17+ GVI hubs worldwide
- Exposure to both community development and conservation programming
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities
- The chance to build lifelong friendships within a globally minded team
- A truly unique lifestyle where your work and impact are deeply connected
This is more than a placement - it’s a chance to become part of a wider global mission.
